If we take BYU, Louisville and WVU, IMO we have a larger market than we did before. I like those additions. Then you add Cinci if Mizzou leaves and you grow even more.

Your position is that BYU, Louisville, West Va and Cincinnati is an upgrade over Nebraska, Texas A&M, Colorado and Missouri?

Sorry I've been gone for a day or two but is WVU not going to the SEC? I would be fine with adding BYU and then two teams a year later... BYU will get us more than you think... teams will like being in a conference with BYU who has a national brand.

If only this thread was titled **official conference realignment news** than this thread would be twice as big. Of course my idea would need many more stars to become official

This article says that with a 13 team SEC, you would play an different amount of conference games between teams. And you could have a division tie between teams in the same division who didn't play each other, and you'd have to pick one for the conference championship. No way SEC stays at 13 for a year...

SEC's scheduling options for 13-team league could bring end to some annual rivalries in West | al.com

The MAC instituted a scheduling plan where four teams in the seven-team East division play five division games and three games against teams in the West, and three East division teams play all six divisional opponents and only two teams from the West.

"What happens is every year there are two games in the East division that don't happen," MAC senior associate commissioner Bob Gennarelli said, adding that those games are rotated every two years.

Gennarelli said the most challenging thing about such a system is the potential for a tie for the division championship between two teams that didn't play head-to-head, which hasn't happened yet in the MAC.

While there has been some grousing about competitive advantage, Gennarelli said, the schedule has largely worked well.

"It's challenging," he said. "We've made it work with minimal issues for almost five years."
Reaction to the idea of some teams dropping a divisional game in the SEC, however, has not been enthusiastic.

"I think that's not right," LSU coach Les Miles said this week.

"I would consider that if you're going to name a Western Division champion, then certainly you want to play the guys in your division."

You shouldnt have to make a claim as to why you believe you fit into a conference you just fit. Mizzou in the SEC is only about $ and will be regretted when Mizzou is soley competing for basketball titles. Does Mizzou compete in one of the best football, women's basketball, baseball conferences? They do hold the advantage in wrestling because nobody in the conference has a wrestling team. This looks like a square peg in a round whole, but hey I under$tand.
Mi$$ouri is only doing their thing. They get over to the $EC and they can begin to gripe that they then like the ACC. Note the only conference that has $$$ signs is $EC.

you guys are crazy if you think no one would miss mizzou. just like we won't miss nebraska??? sure we can add more teams but missouri is the heart of the old big8. You think there will be basketball tournaments in KC if no mizzou? You want ISU on an Island in the bigXII? People saying no one will miss ANY team in the XII except CU is fricking crazy. Can we survive...maybe. But no one should be wishing or hoping or excited about the prospect of them leaving.
I miss CU.:twitcy: They gave us a chance to win. Loved those Hawkins intramural teams and their bball team looked great at Hilton. :spinny: Loved the tornado game.

You could be right...it's possible that the SEC is a bad move for Mizzou. Clearly the B1G would be a more natural fit, but I don't see them expanding again unless ND jumps, and that might be never. They got Nebraska (AAU? We don't need no stinkin' AAU!) Huskers and that's it.

I guess I'd look at past situations where schools have moved conferences (Penn St. to Big 10, Arkansas and SCar to SEC, Miami and VA Tech to ACC, etc.) for examples. Every case is a little different, but none of them suffered dramatically for a long period of time. I think all of them would make the move again, if offered the choice. We'll see if the recent transfers (NU, CU, TAMU, Pitt, etc.) do the same. (Colorado may prove to be the exception - they went from irrelevant in one conference to SUPER-irrelevant in another!)

I don't think it's all ESPN's fault that our conference matchups aren't very compelling. When Arrowhead is half-full for Farmagedden, that's a sign of apathy. Everybody knows that Cyclones will pack the Jack for a compelling matchup (Iowa, Nebraska, Texas this weekend, etc.) For those of you who remember the Florida St. matchup in KC several years ago, how did that atomsphere compare to the KSU game? (I wasn't there, but I heard it was rockin'.) Mizzou and Kansas will probably continue to play...both teams have a lot to gain from the matchup (just like Iowa-ISU...even if the Hawks won't admit it!) But as for the other games, I don't think it's a good reason to stay in an unstable situation.

As for stability, I can't believe that all it took was for the governor of Missouri (not a university employee) to say that the Big 10 would be a nice fit for MU, and our previously-stable conference starts to fall apart. The instability didn't start with Mizzou but from the beginning of the Big 12, with the unusual way revenues were distributed. That's on Texas. If Ohio St./Michigan (in the B1G) or USC/UCLA (in the Pac-12) used their influence as conference heavyweights in the same manner, they'd be unstable too. That behavior destroyed the old SWC, drove off 1/4 of the Big 12, and is keeping other schools (like BYU) from joining us. Nobody's jumping ship because of anything MU says.

We may be outliers in the SEC, that's true. I'd argue that we're already outliers in THIS conference...along with 6 other schools.

Just this point, Penn State and South Carolina were independents at the time as was Miami I believe. The Big East isn't that old is it? So Virginia Tech didn't have great ties there (not sure on this). The SWC was getting blown up (corrupt) so the Arky one is a no brainer. So its not like this is an apples to apples comparison. The only decent comparison is Nebby to the Big 10, only they aren't going to get slaughtered every week like Mizzou would.

The tailgating may be awesome. I have never seen so many obese people as when I lived back east adjacent to WV that came down out of the hills to shop on weekends. They could barely get in the door at the A&P. They know how to pack the food down.

The MU fans I know here in the K.C. area want NOTHING to do with the SEC. They think it's pure insanity.
But, but Slive needs a 124th team (seems like 124th) for fodder after he went out on the limb and grabbed TAMmy. TAMmy is still waiting at the bustop for MO.

I wouldn't be against the Big XII staying at 9 for the near term.

I would love for the Big XII to have a far more aggressive long term plan. The Big XII has some great things to offer if it could get beyond the me me attitude that has undermined this conference.

The big XII provides access to some of the most fertile recruiting grounds and a growing population in the south.

If this conference can stabilize and develop its' own network, it could have more to offer then the B1G. Just because the Big XII is behind the curve doesn't mean it can't catch up.

The key is hiring the right leadership and giving them the control to move this conference forward. I would love to see them launch a network first and then try to attract the best candidates possible. With the growth in this country in the south and the recruiting advantages of the state of Texas, this conference could be far more attractive then people realize. Who's to say Nebraska wouldn't return or Illinois or Notre Dame couldn't be lured into this conference if you fix what isn't working.

Think big. We don't necessarily need to settle. We just need to unite under the right leadership to maximize the value of what this conference can offer then we need to consider expansion. If we over react now we will cripple the potential to make this conference better down the road.

+1

Big 12 is a top football league and deserves teams that fit the profile. Leadership at the top can make this conference bulletproof.

What has Colorado and A&M done over the last 20 years? Not a damn thing. WV is probably an upgrade over Nebraska, with current success. Nebraska has done nothing the last decade. And Mizzou is a loss, but hey BYU has a NC and is a bigger brand.

It's an upgrade in basketball. But CU and Nebraska leaving with no other change was a huge upgrade to begin with.

It's a downgrade in football...for now. BYU in a BCS league could become a bigger program than any of the defectors are in the modern era (done giving Nebraska credit for the disco era and even the 90s are getting distant). WVU in the past decade is above or equal to the defectors. Louisville and Cincy are on par with CU in football but obviously not the other 3.

If TCU were in the equation and Patterson stays there, there's a possibility the football quality does not drop at all.

I read on the Louisville board (a guy had a chart) that L'ville basketball is the #1 revenue stream in all of college hoops and something like #17 overall including football, ahead of some "bigtime" football schools. Imagine what they might be able to do with $25 million in football money rather than $5 million. That's another potential GIANT. This is one of the main reasons I think Louisville is a great replacement for almost anyone. Their new budget would be something like #6 in the country. Louisiville is a no brainer.

"Your position is that BYU, Louisville, West Va and Cincinnati is an upgrade over Nebraska, Texas A&M, Colorado and Missouri?"

Let's look at what the Big 12 has lost/will lose:

A&M: No top 5 finish in over a half century, no national title since the 30s, one Big 12 title 13 years ago. Meaningless.

Nebraska: A power when they could bring in partial qualifiers, they became irrelevant in the Big 12 when they had to use players who could spell their own names. Nebraska played Texas 10 times and lost 9. They will get skull-****ed by Wiscy this Saturday.

Colorado: If I remember correctly, their last Big 12 title game appearance was a 70-3 loss.

Mizzou: Full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing
