CFH Underestimated...

the importance of hiring a viable replacement for Bobby Lutz. One year with Lutz was not enough for Fred to gain all the experience he needed. We are going to get out-coached a lot this year and tonight was a bad start to that trend. I think CFH will be an awesome coach in the future but he is a fish out of water right not. Getting this team to come together given all the circumstances would be tough for some of the best out there (Self, Williams, etc) but for someone with very little experience it is really tough.

One other observation is I wonder if the attitudes that some of the players display can be attributed to CFH being fairly soft on them and not trying to rock the boat given situation some of these guys are coming from. Trying to avoid a blow up and a locker room problem so he just lets some stuff slide. They looked really undisciplined and unfocused tonight so just got me thinking.

I'm not going to jump off the cliff yet but that was a really bad showing tonight on a lot of levels. We are really going to struggle if we can't figure out a serviceable point guard and get an offensive identity. The defensive side and rebounding is just effort...I think CFH can get that corrected.

It's a good thing our non-conference schedule is really weak. We have some serious work to do.

He also underestimated how much Drake was going to exploit our terrible defensive switch. Or did he overestimate how well we would execute it? Hmmm.

We got outcoached in some games last year as well with Lutz. I saw no difference in coaching except last year we had Diante at PG and this year we have SC.

think he is more of a recruiter coach than a true coach but that is fine with me Ill take talent over coaching any day. this team has not completely Jelled yet were gonna be just fine

I have no problem with that either but who is going to coach the X's and O's if the head coach is more of a recruiter coach. We didn't run anything on offense tonight. We just played street ball. I'm not a proponent of tons of set plays but we didn't have a clue on offense. Granted that is magnified by the fact we don't have a point guard but we were just lost.

Really? Cause I saw a huge difference. We didn't score on out of bounds plays at all like we did last year. We didn't run special sets like we did last year. Hell we didn't run anything...our offensive philosophy tonight was run around and set a few screens play unorganized street ball.

ISU fired such a coach in 2006. And replaced him with Mr. 300 Offensive Sets.

I do not know who we miss more - Jake, DG, or Lutz. We had no fillers for these people from last year even though we have more talent. We took a lot of prayer shots tonight.

I have been watching ISU bball for over 30 yrs. Can I coach a game? This is how it will go...

On offense:
RW you bring the ball up and move the ball to one side so you and Allen play a two man game.

Meanwhile Scotty, Babb, Ejim you three move off screens to free up Babb or Scotty a look at the 3.

On Defense:
GET YOUR BALLS OUT OF YOUR MOM'S PURSE AND SACK UP.

This is what scares me. I've never seen a team more willingly switch a small onto a big over and over again. Drake didn't even take advantage of this as much as they could have. I get switching all the screens on the perimeter, I don't like it, but I can understand it since we have a lot of athletic wings on this team. But just switching pick and rolls with Drake's bigs isn't going to work against Drake or any team.

I know I've said this several times tonight, but constantly switching screens leads to lazy defense and poor rebounding. Watch any good man to man team and you will see them hedge hard and get back, not just switch all the time.

I still think we will pull it together, it will just take time, this team will come together as the season progresses.

I don't think it will take a year. I think It will take years. He (CFH) can't coach. And that's why we won't make any tournament with this team. That includes NIT. Just rule everything out please.

lot of dbag quotes here, in fact 99 percent of you guys are losers....its not even thanksgiving, this is a glorified scrimmage with new guys, best thing that could happen is losing this game, this game is meaningless

I don't want to see us switch a guard to a post intentionally again all year. Other teams pressure the ball handler with both the guard and post defender on that screen and Drake did it pretty well against us. We want the players to take this loss as a learning experience, hopefully CFH does as well.

Wrong. It means that this team has a long ways to go if it wants to see a post season tourney. It means that this team can't just show up to beat a mediocre MVC team. It means that for this team to progress it needs to play better defense.

You may think it's meaningless, but drake doesn't... It's their Super Bowl. :jimlad:

Can't believe the complete over reaction...has anyone committed suicide yet? For ****'s sake!

I think Hoiberg underestimated that we would shoot 36% from the field, and hit 60% free throws, and not play defense.

Things have to get better, because they sure as hell can't get worse with stats like those. This game was abysmal.
