I agree, he never says firmly "no." He spins the question and says that he is happy here for now. He doesn't want to lie. That being said, I know Pollard will do everything in his power to keep him, if he still can't then there is nothing we can do about it.

I agree, I've always thought that Rhoads loves coaching and his players much more then he loves Iowa State. To put it a different way, I think he would have as much passion at another job as he does here.

He's a smart guy and I think he'd listen to just about anyone about another job for a little while. He said just this week that he doesn't like that the Big 12 has to play 9 conference games and other conferences get 8.

But I feel a lot better about him staying this year then I did at this time last year. The fans did their part this year and you can tell that matters to him.

I hope that Jamie is ready for the contract extension announcement on Sunday. We've got to get that done. Hopefully, they can put in a huge buyout.

Paul Rhoads has said as much as he could say about wanting to stay here without compromising his bargaining position...like any self-respecting coach would. He is not going to go to Texas A&M.

I think that Rhoads will be mentioned for many jobs but even he has said it would take an exceptional situation to even think about moving from where he is now. A&M is a mess and about as far from an exceptional situation that is possible.

how is it a mess?

Exactly.

Anyone, that isn't directly connected to a TAMU Big Cigar, will be walking into a dysfunctional cesspool. The President's office and the Athletic Department are not exactly on the same page right now.

Very rarely will a coach come out and say 'I'm here, I won't ever go anywhere" Rhoads is due for a contract extension/raise, you think he's not going to use the fact everyone wants him as leverage?

I honestly think Rhoads is happy and is not expecting a massive contract, but he definitely wants to make sure he is given the resources to succeed here and will not hesitate to use his leverage to get it.

I have to believe that a contract extension/assistant coach raise/increased commitment to football from the AD is already in the works, if not pretty much done at this point.

If Rhoads goes to aTm, he is a crazy man. Why would anyone want to go there to compete against Bama, Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas??? Your fan base will have unrealistic expectations every year and would be out of a job in 5 yrs tops.

Count me as not worried. JP will get him a contract extension and make him a happy man.

You have to leave a little room in your answers so that you can negotiate a better deal. Ferentz has always been the master of this technique too. He never flat out denies that he'll leave, he just deflects and says he's happy where he's at. I wouldn't read too much into his comments.

I have thought about this move for CPR and he would be a good fit in College Station. CPR has had success in The Big East, and SEC as a Coordinator and The Big 12 as a HC. No reason to believe he could not be successful with the talent that Sherman has acquired.

The X factor is how Paul feels about his team here now, and his recruiting class. I believe he is excited about them, and what he can accomplish with his own guys. I doubt he makes a move for a few more years at least. Why put in the hard work, and leave before it really comes to fruition? If in three years Paul leaves for a Top Ten job i.e. Texas, Alabama, LSU etc. etc. and we have a new football facility, talent on both sides of the ball, and a Coach ready to take over for him, I would be understanding.

If he left after this year I would be devastated, and I am not exaggerating.

And you know this how?

A&M could offer him $3 million per year and you'd expect him to say no to tripling his salary?

He will get boosted to at least 2M here. Might take more than 3M to get him.

It might come down to how he thinks recruting is going and what we got coming in. Hell who knows, maybe he thinks he has some studs coming in and can wait a few more years. Hard to see him leaving if we throw 2M bucks at him in Ames, IA where his dad lives.

Toss in the fact that he's getting everything he asks for from the AD, the fanbase is coming out in record numbers to see his team and the fact that he has the complete support with anyone and everyone involved with ISU football, I'd say it's not as cut and dry as some are making it out to be.

Some coaches chase money, some coaches chase the idea of being "the guy" for a university (see: Bill Snyder). It's just going to come down to which one Rhoads is. I honestly think he falls in the latter category.

Quick, someone send them Paul Rhodes and lock Paul Rhoads in the janitor's closet of the Jacobson Building until all of the coaching vacancies are full.

Or Saul Rhoads. Saul should be up for one of these jobs with the year he has had.

I posted two weeks ago that Rhoads is worth 3 million a year here in Ames. No reason he is not.

I still think he ends up around 3 million in the next year

I think they already (A&M) have the coach they are going after, so CPR is safe.
