Re: Pujols to Angles

I thought he would sign with the Line Segments first

rebecacy is probably struggling with this one. His sources said it was a done deal that he was a Cardinal

If this is true, I kinda feel bad for the Cards. They did all they could, but in the end it was all about the money for Albert. That said I could totally see this being misreported.

Yeah, the money reportedly coming to him from LAA is definitely outside of the comfortable range for STL. I hope that Mozeliak is aggressive in finding some new talent to fill the gap on offense (hopefully a solid middle infielder at least).

Holliday, Jay, and Craig will start in the OF. Berkman at 1B and Freese at 3B with Molina at C. I wish Jose Reyes was still on the market but still even now Mozeliak should go after some 2B and SS talent.

If anybody was going to give him 10 years, it had to be an AL team. If you can slide him into the DH role later in the contract, you may be able to avert some of the disaster that is most likely coming when you're paying a 40 year old $20 mil+/. As odd as it seems, I'm relieved that the Cards aren't giving in and giving him an albatross contract like this. I'll miss him, but I think the relationship could have gotten really ugly toward the end of the contract.

Best of luck Albert and thanks for the memories.

Sad to see him go, but glad they didn't give him 10 years $250MM........the American League is a better fit for him.

I bet St. Louis feels like Ames did a couple years ago when HB skyped Williams.

The only loyalty in pro sports today is to the $$$$. Teams/cities do not count just $$$.
Mostly true. But Albert had said all along it wasn't about the money. Straight up liar. Ruins a lot of his credibility/goodwill IMO.

I said it on the other thread and I'll say it here: the Cards just got bailed out. It may suck to lose Albert, but this is by far the best scenario for them in the long run.

It may take about 5-6 years, but the Cardinals will be laughing at the Angels by about June of 2017, IMO.

Albert seems to have been under pressure from the players association. they want a top salary so others can do the same. Albert is a team man and stuck with the players association.
