CBS and multiple Ohio St sites claim the OC job is still open there...dienhart's source is from our side...if he OC was attached I think Ohio St would confirm...

I can't believe some buckeye fans truly believe a position coach job at their school is better than a coordinator job at a BCS school that likely would've beaten their team this year...

What? Are you suggesting that a middling school in the middling Big Ten would be so arrogant as to think that their sewage tastes like cream soda?

Well, I never!

Looking at some OSU message board posts, it is clear that they are taken aback by us not raising hell about Herman leaving. I'm sure they expected us to be in love with the guy, and when the general prevailing attitude was "Thanks, and good luck" from Cyclone fans, they needed some other justification to feel good about the hire. Convincing themselves that this is a clear promotion for Herman is the only way they can convince themselves that we're wrong and they're right.

If it comes out in the public that Herman was not going to be retained by ISU that could be an interesting discussion to read on tOSU boards.

From football scoop:

Ohio State: We are told that Tom Herman will serve as offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach.

Sure it is if he wants to move up the ranks. He can be QB coach and have a foot in for when the OC take a new job in a few years. Step into that and in a few years he could get a BCS head coaching job. If he stayed at ISU his first head job would prob be non BCS job.

what I'm thinking is that TH got nudged by CPR to leave, the signs of not getting a renewed contract and leaving before the season's over indicates CPR told him to look around because he's not coming back after the bowl game. Herman let people know and then Ohio St. offered an OFFENSIVE POSITION on the staff. Herman then as a little revenge stuck it to CPR and left before the bowl game.

Meyer is looking for a better OC then Herman in his eyes, if he finds his guy then it all works out...the new guy is OC and then Herman is QB Coach. If Meyer can't find anybody at all, then Herman will get stuck at OC...it's a risk/reward situation for Herman. That would explain why some people are saying QB Coach and some say maybe even OC(doubt it, likely Meyer's back-up plan in case everything fails).

Getting a chance to coach at Ohio State and the added bonus of coaching with Urban Meyer will greatly enhance his resume. To national people, that is a great move because despite Rhoads and his fun upset every year, Iowa State is still just Iowa State and is not seen as a great or even good sports school. Why do you think Oklahoma State was killed for losing to ISU? National perception. Herman can go to Ohio State, coach for one of the premier programs in college football with Meyer who is considered a coaching genius. That will propel him to greater heights than being the OC at Iowa State. If I was him I would do it in a heartbeat.

Plausible except for the TH sticking it to CPR part. I don't think he would maliciously "stick it" to CPR. Also CPR would have to expect something like that to happen if he wasn't going to renew a contract after a bowl game.

It’s become official.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith confirmed to the Associated Press that Iowa State offensive coordinator Tom Herman is the program’s new quarterback coach.

Smith also told the AP that Herman will remain at ISU through the Pinstripe Bowl.

Herman’s spent the last three seasons as the Cyclone offensive coordinator. He was the Rice offensive coordinator before coming to ISU.

For more information, check out Saturday’s paper or amestrib.com.

Just because they didn't mention the OC position, doesn't mean he wasn't given it...

Boom. The mystery is solved. Most importantly, my guarantee stands! ;-)

I don't see how he could say no to that job. That's a huge career opportunity.

Does the fact that Herman is still coaching for us through the bowl game ruin some of the conspiracy theories about him not being retained by CPR?

No. Like any good conspiracy theory, it moves the goal posts.

Allow me to demonstrate. Ahem.

BUT why on EARTH would CPR let him coach in the bowl game? Doesn't he have a duty to OSU? Isn't this just a scam for Herman to throw the Pinstripe and relegate his former team to its "rightful" place in the college football backwater?

Norm Parker is behind all of this.

See how easy that is?
