He deserves more than 2 million. Wasn't Turner Gill making more than that?
I read somewhere that his assistants are getting a raise too. Maybe he turned down more more so the assistants can get paid more?

Tuned into Murph and Andy since I was driving to see what they had to say, and talk about annoying. It's like they took a challenge to take an exciting subject for Iowa State fans, and find the most negative aspects, real or imagined, and talk about only those the whole time. I normally like those guys, but today was just stupid.

Assistant payroll will also increase in the new contract:

BobbyLaGesse Bobby La Gesse
Before this season started Rhoads got $350,000 to add to his assistant coach salary pool. With this new contract another $300K gets added.

So how much are we paying assistants at the moment (counting Herman in this past year) and how much do we have available now?

Looks like 2010 data so that wouldn't include the $350K from this season:

Haven't been able to find sum totals by schools, but the USA Today does break it down individually here (head coaches there as well): Salary analysis of 2010 Football Bowl Subdivision coaches - USATODAY.com

You can also sort it and manually add things up which I did below (all teams have 9 asst's; bonuses were not included in my numbers and those vary widely from 0 to six figures sometimes).

Iowa State Big 12 Wally Burnham 300,000
Iowa State Big 12 Tom Herman 300,000
Iowa State Big 12 Bill Bleil 150,000
Iowa State Big 12 Bobby Elliott* 150,000
Iowa State Big 12 Curtis Bray 120,000
Iowa State Big 12 Courtney Mess. 120,000
Iowa State Big 12 Kenith Pope 120,000
Iowa State Big 12 Shane Burnham 100,000
Iowa State Big 12 Luke Wells 100,000

ISU Total: $1.46 million (Iowa's total is $1.65 million)

Baylor is unknown (had one guy at $336,000/yr)
Kansas: $1.95 million
K-State: $1.56 million
Mizzou: $2.07 million
OU: $2.65 million
Okie State: $2.54 million
Texas: $3.02 million
A&M: $1.67 million
Tech: $1.96 million

So as of 2010, we were in the basement, but I'd imagine that will change with Rhoads's new contract...

This is as important as Paul's new contract.

Re: Rhoads agrees to extension at Iowa State

I am stoked about this new contract. It gives him that job security and also gives us the flexibility to increas assistant salaries, and invest in infrastructure.

His previous incentives could have garnered him about 1 mil more per year and I am guessing those may have gone up as well. He could probably make 3.5 mill in a dream season (followed by another raise I'm sure).

As for the thread derail:
A friend of mine is a huge Arrested Development fan. He said he had read somewhere that the band Arrested Development was suing Fox because of the name of the TV show. Fox didn't want to pay anything to them going forward, so they cancelled the show.

My friend also said that they are planning to do at least another season of the show soon right before they make a movie.

Agree, probably one of the best comedies that got cancelled because no one knows why.

One more great thing to tell recruits and their parents.

You'll be in school for 4 years and I'm on contract for 10 - he'll be there to see them through it. Big sale item in today with high turnover.

Do it, ISpyCy! My wife and I drove over 3 hours from the north burbs of Minneapolis for every game this year. Worth every minute of being in the car and every dollar spent!

What he said. We've made that drive for nearly every home game the past few years and don't regret it a bit.

(Actually 3 1/2 hours but still worth it.)

Re: Rhoads agrees to extension at Iowa State

This is just as ridiculous as those who thought he was leaving for sure.
When the Pittsburgh media is reporting that Rhoads is the nubmer one candidate for the Pitt head job, I think that is reason to worry at least a little.
Last I checked, Iowa State has a pretty solid track record of getting kicked square in the balls.
I thought he would stay at the end of the day, but my blood pressure was a bit elevated.

Finally instead of getting kicked in the balls they are kinda tingly...

Exactly. I seriously laughed when I saw his "update". For someone that is on twitter you would think the national trend of Rhoads would have peaked his interest in why.

Be sure to check his feed later tonight for an update on how Pujols' meeting with the Marlins goes.

Congrats on signing Rhodes to a long term deal. He's obviously a fantastic young coach and it's great that he is showing loyalty and staying with you all. That's something you don't see too often these days in college sports. I really think you all are in for some good times and fun football. The best thing that happened to our program was Pinkel deciding to stay at Missouri and build his football program here. I look forward to seeing Rhodes do something similar at ISU. The stability of a long term coach is also a great thing to be able to sell to recruits. Rhodes is off to an impressive start up there in Ames and I know I won't be the only tiger fan rooting for you all in the Big 12. The ISU fans I met on our road trip up their in 2010 were friendly and fun to talk with. I was really impressed that we didn't run into even one rude or bad fan. Good luck in your bowl game and in the future against the Big 12.
