UPDATED (2/12): Bilas' Power Index Rankings

I have been updating this but I will try to start this thread and then just update it on a week by week basis. The last thread title was a little deceiving if we are going to keep rising!

Anyway we come in at #41 this week with this to say:

41. Iowa State Cyclones

Iowa State has won three in a row, and is one of the top 25 offensive teams in the country. The Cyclones shoot it well, but don't get second shots. With wins over Kansas, Kansas State and Texas, the Cyclones are headed toward the NCAA tournament.

Seems like we would have jumped more than 2 spots with a couple of good wins, but that's ok. Great week, and getting more and more respect.

I thought that too... only 2 spots? I don't have insider but you would think a tough road opponent like Oklahoma combined with the hard nosed Kansas State team we would've bumped up more...

So according to him, we're an 11 seed.

In the next 2 days I'll put out my bracketology...We almost got a 9 seed in my bracket and was the best 10 seeded team...think he's pretty off...same region as Mizzou so there's another hint at what it will look like.

This week....

33. Iowa State Cyclones

Iowa State has won four of five, with the only loss coming to Oklahoma State. Wins against Kansas, Kansas State and Texas boost the numbers, and the shooting of this team can keep it in the game with almost anyone.

How can Bilas justify having KSU and Texas ahead of us? Aren't we ahead of them in the Big12 standings, and aren't we on a hot streak right now?

If anyone can shed some light on this, I would be forever grateful.

I didn't see what positions KSU & UT are (I don't have Insider).

But conference standing isn't everything. ISU has split with Texas, so that's no advantage. ISU beat KSU at home.

Realtime RPI RealTimeRPI.com Men's College Basketball Rating Percentage Index (RPI) Ratings - A leading sports ratings and resources community on the Internet: has
ISU 45
KSU 51
Texas 54

But I figured it's probably a case of non-conference strength-of-schedule at this point, although overall SOS is:

Texas: 20
ISU: 61
KSU: 85

So KSU's overall schedule isn't helping -- but non-league slate looks much more challenging than ISU's

KSU has no losses outside Top 10 RPI (worst loss is mid-80s OU, although K-State was swept)

Texas has one loss outside top 100 (Oregon State). Has played Missouri twice (both losses).

I don't think it's a big deal right now. All 3 would probably be in the tournament if the field were announced today. The closer we get to the end of the regular season, conference position will more accurately reflect tournament hopes/placement.

yeah, not getting the whole KSU and UT ahead of us. Granted we still have at BU, at MU and home against BU, but we are two up. This doesnt make sense.
