If I see someone willingly using IE on their own computer, I just can't believe it. Chrome is by far the best browser, with Mozilla behind it. Mozilla does have some nice features though.

For some reason our work website only displays correctly on IE. Otherwise I'm on Chrome for my home computer and cell phone.

That's what people fail to recognize when bringing up the work thing. Most of the applications I use at work are web based and only work properly with IE. They won't even let us download Chrome :(

I still prefer Firefox to Chrome, but yeah, IE just flat out sucks. And yes I have only IE to deal with at work. At least before I transferred to my new work location we could use Firefox on sites that didn't require IE.

Is there any reason to make the switch from Firefox to Chrome? Ive been using Firefox for years and am perfectly happy with it. Are there any advantages that Chrome offers that I'm missing out on?

Chrome is great, but I am using mostly FireFox now with the new version of Zotero that came out in March.

Anyone can use Zotero to create a database of things they want to save from around the web, even as simple as news or sports articles to get going, or even if that is all you use it for. But I would highly recommend it for students especially if you have some time on your hands and to learn something useful.

I have done quite a bit with it the last two weeks. Here are some things I'm using in conjunction:

FireFox Profiles (can use for different set ups, like personal v business, also for multiple Zotero databases)

PDF-XChange Viewer - CNET Download.com
Instead of Adobe, this I use to highlight pdfs that I might save to Zotero (or just pdfs in general, note this is a review I think of the IE version download, Google for other versions and more info).

Diigo - Web Highlighter and Sticky Notes, Online Bookmarking and Annotation, Personal Learning Network.
Other utilities here as well, but I am using to highlight web pages, in general, but specifically for links I save to Zotero.

Here is the link to Zotero:
Zotero | Home
Learn to use the search feature for detailed help.

quick_start_guide [Zotero Documentation]
General overview.

All of these are Cloud based or integrated, with related implications (work is accessible from any internet connected computer). I am still learning, and am not going to get into detail, but believe I will get a lot out of these applications. There are reasons I listed these (all free), based on what I have learned and plan to use them for.

Again, anyone can use Zotero to save articles, pictures or whatever you want from around the web. It is easy to use and get started. The more you use it the more you learn about more complex or powerful features. You can use it in Chrome now also, and standalone and in the Cloud, but still best at certain things in FireFox, where it began as an extension. It will never be very useful in IE, since IE is not open source. You can use IE to work though on your Zotero database in the Cloud, which automatcally syncs with your local or computer based database (as you can do with any web browser).

For students in particular, however, especially for anyone who might go to graduate school, I would highly recommend it. Aspects that just came out in March make it especially useful IMO.

Anyway, this is kind of some academic advice, and ultimately career advice since this is useful knowledge, though Zotero is a tool anyone might find useful. For example, Chris might save pictures of Taylor Swift :), and news articles, blog posts, research or what not, that he might want to have ready access to at any point in the future.

This can include class notes, or documents you create.

It is much more than just a citation manager, though many electronic databases make it very easy to get stuff into Zotero, like JSTOR, HeinOnline, and library search results. If I recall correctly, save to Zotero is also one of the options when you download or print a document from either Google Drive or Microsoft Sky Drive.

I use it in part to get useful documents to show up in my iPad via the Cloud. But it is still very powerful on just a single computer.

Using it a fair amount has helped me decide how I am going to use it and how better to set my stuff up. I had been accumulating a lot of links in anticipation of this Zotero release, thinking OK now I can just use it in Chrome. But aware of this, FireFox improved a lot in the interim. Again, certain things are just easier in FireFox still, and since FireFox has improved so much, that is mostly what I am using now.

Or are trapped on it at work. Which if that's the case, their IT people should be taken out back and shot.

No, SharePoint works a lot better on IE.

For some reason our work website only displays correctly on IE. Otherwise I'm on Chrome for my home computer and cell phone.

Yea, I still use Chrome at work, but some random sites that are work related display better in IE.

That's what people fail to recognize when bringing up the work thing. Most of the applications I use at work are web based and only work properly with IE. They won't even let us download Chrome :(

Haha, No Chrome is bad thing. Ask your IT department why they don't allow it.

Also, most IT Depts. allow it, but don't support it. Key differences.

I use Ubuntu for an operating system and Chromium for a browser which is Chrome without Google's tracking software. It is good stuff!

I find it odd that it has gotten to the point where I trust microsoft more than google. Their privacy policies scare me. That's why I'm a FF guy.
