Way faster...and trust me I have used FF for years.

Agreed. I was an avid Firefox user for many, many years. Just about 6 months ago I tried Chrome and I'm not going back. Great browser, plus I enjoy the 'apps' it has too.

MNclone, you have makings of a Linux user. I must admit that it is enjoyable not to have to struggle to remain in control of my own computer.

I have used Chrome since it first came out years ago, and it was much, much faster than IE and FF then. I still prefer it, but for the Zotero aspect mentioned above, but both FF and IE made significant improvements since. The difference in speed (and design) isn't as great as it once was. And I know FireFox made significant improvements over the last year, some much more recent, in part because they knew Zotero users were wanting to use Chrome, that they didn't want to be tied to an inferior browser just because of this legacy extension.

So anyway I have seen major design improvements in FireFox over the last several months. I myself started using Zotero more than a year ago, and had to ask whether I wanted to go back to using that dog, FF - what was more important, Zotero or the browser?

It could just be my computer, or internet connection, relatively fast compared to when I first used Chrome, but the difference in speed isn't significant enough to affect my decision. It isn't even something I notice, or think about, such that I would actually have to check to know Chrome is in fact faster, though I believe it probably is slightly, based on my prior experience.

So with the design improvements, the difference between FF and Chrome now isn't nearly as great as it was a year ago. There were a number of FF updates pretty evenly spaced over the last year.

I also spent more time customizing FF, getting it just how I want it. In my experience the differences with Chrome have never been as insignificant, Zotero completely aside. I still prefer Chrome slightly because of the design, but I've learned some cool aspects of FF I didn't use before.

I plan to use and continue to learn more about both, but see little reason to about IE.

One thing IE is better with is using it for MS Office on SkyDrive and your desktop, more seemless integration (though I have yet to use this a lot).

IE9 is not that bad. I prefer the Chrome interface, but other than that I have no real issues with IE as it stands today.

I have 5 browsers installed on my computer currently. Mainly because if I do web design I want to make sure it looks good on different browsers.

I have extensions on Firefox that I don't want to have on my primary browser (Chrome). I have Safari because iTunes bothers me about it so much that I might as well install it, plus it is the primary browser of Mac users, and it is important things work well with Safari. And then I have Opera. It is my second favorite browser, and has a really clean interface, and some cool built in features for streaming and accessing my media via the internet.

How much work is it to change to Chrome and how big is the file? I have an older laptop with a fairly full hard drive.

Sorry, I don't know the space requirements off the top of my head. Maybe someone else here can help, but here are Google search results for "download chrome":

https://www.google.com/search?q=dow...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Provided you have enough space, and you might even want to make enough if you need to, it should be a piece of cake to download and get going. If you aren't using IE 9, which was a huge upgrade and in response to Chrome, but rather an older version of IE instead, there is a good chance you will see a big increase in speed.

Strictly off the top of my head, the system requirements for IE 9 are greater than for Chrome. So some people might see a huge increase in performance with Chrome if they are currently using an older version of IE.

chrome is very fast but it crashes a lot for me and others i know who use it

if i liked the design of ie or firefox as much as chrome, i'd use them instead since they arent that much slower and they dont crash very often

What crashes with it? I've seen shockwave crash a view times, but I'm guessing it would be more to do with your computer than Chrome.

That's what people fail to recognize when bringing up the work thing. Most of the applications I use at work are web based and only work properly with IE. They won't even let us download Chrome :(
i use firefox and duck duck go instead of google. google logs your info and i am not cool with that
