I am a fan of everything that has been suggested so far. This actually just made the decision harder, because now I have way more options than I first thought...

Fat Tire seems to be a pretty popular choice, although I am very interested in the Shift someone mentioned. Not sure I've ever had that, is it a seasonal? Anyway, thanks folks, I'll post pics next month.
Shift is a new pale lager from New Belgium. It was released a few months ago. It's decent.

Shift isn't a seasonal, its NBB's newest beer they've released. It's a ton better than Fat Tire IMO.

I would think you'd want something darker, but with a little bite to balance out the gamey/earthy taste of goat. Something like a hoppy Amber Ale or Brown Ale. I immediately thought of Magic Hat's Roxy Rolles (although that may be seasonal), or Troegs Hopback Amber Ale. Maybe even an Imperial Red Ale like Lagunitas Lucky 13, or Bear Republic Red Rocket...but those may be too strong.

Since it is summer, a Kolsch (Harpoon Summer Beer) or Pale might work well too.

3 shots of everclear, followed by as much natty as you can drink. Amount saved 10 dollars.
Feeling like a 21 year old again. Priceless.

I have a potentially strange question today fanatics...

What beer goes best with goat? My family is roasting a whole goat this summer, sort of for my birthday, and I am really curious if anyone here has tried it before and what beer(s) may go well with it. I'm not a huge beer snob, but would like to have something past the Busch/Bud/Coors family of beers.

Thanks in advance!

Probably one of the weirdest questions I've seen on here, but I love it. I would suggest Trout Slayer. But I suggest Trout Slayer for everything.

I eat a lot of goat in the Carribean, so normally I'd just drink the island beer, Carib, Wadadli, Etc etc....

Best bet in Iowa is to drink Red Stripe or Landshark.

It might be too light to pair with the goat, but New Belgium Shift is one of the best lagers around. Its an absolutely great beer for a hot summer day.

I've never had goat, but I know that one of the most versatile styles of beer is American Amber Ales (Fat Tire is an example). They have medium hop character and can pair well with anything from red meats to fish. The hops won't overpower the goat like a American Pale Ale or IPA might.

Since it's summer, I'm not a big fan of drinking brown ales or anything darker mainly because it just isn't as refreshing when it's warm outside.

The more spices/seasonings that are used on the goat, the more I would stay away from lighter beers, as the spices might overpower the meat/seasoning.
