There will be a wait for Hickory Park after a game, but it is not unbearable. They move people in-out very fast. If it is a nice day (and moreso if ISU has won) there will be plenty of post-game tailgating which is also fun.

We also love Great Plains pizza which is also in Main Street 4 blocks east of Old Main. They are known for their thick crust pizza, which you can eat with honey once you've eaten all the cheese and toppings. For thin crust pizza we love Vesuvius which is on the south side of town closer to Hickory Park. They use a wood fired oven and pizza is done in minutes. If you need entertainment for your son on Saturday there is a bowling/arcade/laser tag place called Perfect Games that my kids like.

If you are a college sports fan in general, you could take in the ISU women vs. Texas volleyball game on Sat. Should be a great match and tickets are just $5 (free parking). They play at Hilton Collesium which is just north of the football stadium. Both the men's and women's bball teams are out of town that day (Vegas and the Bahamas).

When I was at WVU we had a similar place called "The Pit". Out of control but funny to watch. 70 year old grannies doing keg stands. However, not much fun if you were an opposing fan with a loud mouth.
stay away from the thunderdome that is the student lots. these people are trying to get you killed! park at kmart and walk to the stadium. listen to the hickory park hype. the place is delicious

Actually I believe this is where we will be staying.

if this is the case, plan on leaving a nice cushion of time for you to get anywhere on gameday, you're on the west side of Ames, the stadium is in the middle, and the restaurants these people are suggesting are east of campus

You try and hit up Wallaby's too. It's in West Ames. Local sports bar with good food.

Actually, I think that location will be pretty convenient for getting around. You are right off Highway 30. Wouldn't be surprised if on game day it wouldn't be too hard to drive right down Mortensen that goes by Ames Middle School and the Towers and get pretty close to the stadium that way too. And you'll have a lovely view of the Cyclone basketball practice facility.

these people? what do you mean 'these' people? also scarlasfly, stay away from the infamous 'clonecone'.. all it really is, is a 5$ ice cream cup with red/yellow foodcoloring.

Yes, anytime you put 80-100k people in a 1 square mile area, getting in and out of that area with a car will take time.

Lies! One can only truly experience a clone cone in an actual cone and not in a cup. Also, I believe you must be a "true clone" or it will taste like vanilla ice cream. I always taste cyclone victories and rainbows when I have mine.

Also I would stay away from Mortensen on game day. I think there are some fans that try to be sneaky and take Mortensen to exit on South Duff. Everytime I have seen it after a game it seems to always be in gridlock.
