Am I the only one seeing this? With Barnett the playbook is open. They ran the diamond formation for the first time this year and it was a huge success. And passing? Barnett has thrown better than Jantz has all season. Go Clones!

We have sustained more drives in the 3rd quarter against a better defense on the road than we did all day last week.
Mess has been much better calling plays this second half. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
They ran diamond against Tech also. We had some of our best runs out of that formation against them.
I wouldn't say Mess is more comfortable calling plays because of the quarterback, I would say Rhoads said something along the lines of "We aren't winning a game in the Big 12 if the only plays you call are screens and read options"
Nope, I distinctly remember seeing us run it for two series, have some success, and wonder afterwards why we didn't do it more.
Good improvement by Mess. JB looked good at keeping his head. If the receivers sans JL would have shown up, we may not have had such a bad 2nd quarter.

It really feels like a common theme that the offensive play calling since Rhoads arrived has been less predictable with more big plays when Iowa State has played tougher competition. In games they expect to win, they try to beat teams with their vanilla offense and the only scores come when they manage to string together a long series of successful plays.
