Damn right!! I'd still rather put something on the turntable than listen to it from the computer.

Amen. I'm a little ****** that vinyl is making a comeback, because so many albums are being reissued from digital masters, which kindof defeats the purpose...that wasn't something I had to check for a few years back, but now you've got to be careful when buying albums (especially online) if you're looking for a pressing made from analog tapes. Two notable reissue series that were made from remastered analog reels are the three "proper" Hendrix LPs and the Neil Young Archives collection; very solid mixes in both cases.

If there is any album that should be considered as an exception to your compilation rule, I think it's Legend. Bob Marley's albums are excellent but contain more tracks that are roots reggae and generally not as enjoyable to those who aren't reggae enthusiasts. Legend brought great reggae to the masses without getting all UB40-ish to do so. I respect you guys being purists but Legend remains on my list. This is coming from a guy who still owns 1411 vinyl albums, and only one of which is a compilation; Legend.

I had some toolbag tell me that Legend was **** and that the "real" Marley fans loathe it because those songs are a huge departure from his ska/roots stuff from early in his career.

I laughed him off pretty hard; Legend is an incredible collection of songs.

"Slow Show" is one of my favorite songs ever. Does Matt sound vaguely like Springsteen to you?
Ooh I love that one too. I think Start A War is my favorite on that album. I've never thought of the Springsteen comparison before, but now that you say that I can see what you mean.

No Van Halen - Van Halen, VH II, Women & Children first, Balance, etc?
No Rush - 2112, Farewell to Kings or Hemispheres?
No Ozzy Diary of a Madman? Don't they play Crazy Train intro at many FB stadiums on Saturdays?
No Kiss fanatics yet saying Alive or Destroyer?
No SRV? At all?
No Scorpions Blackout, Love at First Sting, Love Drive?
No Queen?
Kansas?
Alice Cooper, Cry of Love, Bad Company, Cars, Cheap Trick, Cranberries, Dokken, Eric Johnson, Beethoven, Hayden, Warren Zevon, Tesla, Styx, Pat Benetar, No Doubt, etc?

My Flying V avatar is ashamed I tell you. Ashamed.

And they even teach classical music at ISU....really? Well, it is 200+ years old, so there's that...

What are they teaching children about music these days? Shakes head....

Edit: If you're counting artists only, I'm at 23, so here's a couple more: Supertramp, Jethro Tull (Aqualung). I could go on for a while here folks. Guess I must be from an alternate musical universe.

If you're going to list everything you own is it really a favorites list? At some point you need to narrow that thing down.

Some really good stuff in this thread. Some of the posts, however, remind of the "Friends" episode where they were answering trivia questions about each other:

"What does Rachel say is her favorite movie? 'Dangerous Liaisons'"
"What is Rachel's actual favorite movie? 'Weekend at Bernie's'"

I'm with you. I could see where it wouldn't be that interesting to a hardcore reggae fan, but the bottom line is that there aren't that many hardcore reggae fans, and Legend was able to bring those styles and ideas to the masses almost solely due to the fact that Bob Marley is an incredible songwriter, and those were some of his best songs.
