I disagree here
I have seen both of them play. Hogue will score in transition and slashing to the hoop. He will get the garbage points. When I was at the game Hogue did not take one outside shot. That's not his game. As for Amardi, he will probably score the same way. Getting rebounds and scoring off that. He doesn't have a bad shot but he won't be much of a threat out there. His game is out jumping you. I like both of them but neither of them will light the world on fire with their offensive game.

I'm guessing he went back to then, because thats the last time we had quality recruits like these. You could look at Iowa, who when I went to the Iowa/ISU game this year it seemed like they had three freshman and a sophomore starting. Its college basketball, lots of freshman play, the redshirt isn't all that common either.

Oh I agree - freshman have more of an impact her than in FB. But it's no guarantee. Naadir Tharpe is an example (we wanted him, but had to "settle" for Sledge, whom we were still REALLY excited about) - lot of hype coming on for that PG, and even as a sophomore, he doesn't seem to know what his role is. No one doubts his talent, but he can't figure out his role, or he refuses to acknowledge it, and therefore doesn't play as much as he should.

Im not hating on Matt or Monte, just trying to be realistic.

Umm we almost lost that one corner to Indiana in football because of CF, per HIS words, he ended up signing though.

and I'm sure Georges' mom doesn't necessarily like our comments about his body.

Like I said, we didn't lose anyone. Hes a Cyclone isn't he?

Yup and I hear you, but that doesn't mean it will never happen.

I HOPE it never happens but I want to try to prevent it.

His mom is an intelligent adult and I would guess she knows that her son's #1 weakness is his body/athleticism. It's easy to pick out because all the other parts of his game are so good. Everyone knows it needs to improve going forward because if it does, he will be borderline unstoppable. Hell, he is pretty unstoppable right now. I don't think George's mom is too worried about it, especially since he probably gets more love than anyone on here.

I was never questioning her intelligence. I'm just saying what if (while recruiting Georges) she sees it, shows Georges, and he gets offended.

Hypothetically speaking, of course. I just wouldn't want to be responsible for taking a great player out of a cyclone uniform, you know?

In order for us to be good someone besides Niang and Ejim will have to score. Thomas is the leading candidate to do that in my opinion. If he doesn't, I don't know who else would.

Bubu- Isn't a scoring threat
Bluford- Will be a solid scorer.
Gibson- Early in the season I might think he could be a guy who be up there in points in 2013 but I don't think so now.
Amardi- Not a huge scoring threat
Hogue- Same as Amardi
SDW- I think he'll be a good scorer but he is only a FR too.
Edozie- Not a scorer

So if we shouldn't expect that much from Thomas and Morris because they are freshman then next year we will struggle to score. We will need Thomas to grow up fast and I think he will.

IMO it's hard to teach shooting. And Thomas has that. A shooter will shoot and Thomas can. I think we can expect Thomas to put up some good points next year(probably 12-15 a game). I also think we will lean on Ejim to put up a good amount of points next year as well. And of course Niang.

I'm going to go out on a limb, and say that every player committed to Iowa State knows they aren't flawless.

Allowed constructive criticism: Niang is a great player for a freshman and is very skilled, and once he gets in shape he will be even better. You can tell that he still has some bad weight to lose.

Not ok criticism: Blah blah player is trash and can't do anything good. He totally sucks and the coaches are stupid for even recruiting him.

There's a difference. Nobody is above constructive criticism.

My worry is can he get open and do we have someone who can draw defenders and get him and the other shooters open.

The good thing about Thomas is he isn't only a spot up shooter. He can score with somebody on him and he will be able to come off screens like McGee does. He has a good mid range game and gets to the free throw line a lot.

The fact that you had to go back to Stinson and Blalock proves my point.

Its more often that we have Buckleys, Manns, Okoros, Longs. I'm just saying we need to check our expectations, or we'll find ourselves disappointed and down on Monte and Matt some time next year.

Fred Hoiberg has taken this program back to the glory days we had in early 2000's in just 3 years he puts a great product on the court. Fans are packing Hilton and the place rocks... He knows talent and look what he has put on the court in just 3 short years. Naz and Okoro are very talented there are just no minutes at guard with Mcgee, Lucious, Clyburn all palying the guard spot. Its great to have that option to not be forced to play them. Team will be young next year but wow Naing and Ejim are back what a base to build off. Morris and Thomas are top 75 recruits and the Juco's had great offers. Man dude you are a hater, bitter pill about everything and always spew your negitive comments on here about the cyclones. Is it that your a jealous fan of another team just that way in general or just want to stir the pot on here. Enjoy what we have going and if you don't like it get off the ride. In Fred we trust!

That was just an example. My main topic was Edozie. And your "not ok criticism" fits pretty well with what's been said of him.

I believe that he has that in him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't contribute that as a true freshman. It takes awhile for shooters to develop good midrange games. Look at Babb, Christopherson, and McGee. All added it in their last years of college. If Thomas can do that next year, he will be the real deal.

You said comments about his body were off limits because his mom reads the board, I said they aren't provided they are reasonable constructive criticism. We are on the same page. Just don't go overboard and try to tell every single person on here that tries to be realistic or points out a flaw that they can't (not saying you are, just something I have seen frequently).

Yeah I understand Edozie has his work cut out for him but he doesn't need to be called "sucky" by some people on here who consider typing really fast as an exercise.

I think we will be a combination of this year and last year. More like last year in the sense that we will have guys who can drain threes like Christopherson(Thomas), Allen(SDW), and McGee(Bluford). But instead of having the Point Forward, we will have a PG like we do this year. Obviously those guys aren't guaranteed to be that good from the three, and we probably wont have a PG as good as Lucious... but you get what I'm saying. It will obviously be different, and experience from Niang and Ejim among others should do nothing but help the team!

Assuming those guys can still drain shots in a game, the biggest thing will be we need a guard who can dribble, create, drive the lane and open it up for everyone. Hopefully Morris, Long, or someone is ready to do that.

One thing that would make the team a lot better, is if we actually play defense next year too. We lose Babb, so we at least need someone to step up... but I'm hoping we just play better defense as a whole.
