Its not hard to have a wide range of IR compatibility though, its basically a universal remote.

It must not be too hard. The cheap Vizio tablet(RIP) I bought was able to control every device in my house. It didn't last a year but the IR controller was good:)

I have a feeling they'll get the compatibility down well enough, thats not hard.

However, i in no way believe the delay will be as instant as they demo'd. An IR blaster is going to introduce delay, plus cable boxes arent that fast to begin with.

Too bad the xbox didnt have dvr functionality and a cablecard.

You'd also think that they could support relatively new printers with their various OS's, but that doesn't make it so.

I think cablecard hardware would be much more difficult compatibility-wise than the IR blaster, though. This is something that is (was) supposed to be available in the last decade, but never took off. Such a thing would make homebrew DVR's much easier to build...

Xbox One: live TV available in US only at launch, requires separate device | VG247

Looks like it does require a cable or sat box for the TV to work.

So basically this is just like the old VCRs from the 70s? We'll play TV for you, but really, you still have to have a cable company, cable box and we'll just pass it through our box to your TV? WTF, why do I need the Xbox to do what the cable box I'm paying for already does?

But yeah, Playstation controllers suck ***!

Part of that is there's never been a major hardware player really get behind cablecard, so cable companies havent really had to support it. They finally do a decent job supporting tivos. A brand as big as xbox could force the issue.

And printer drivers are a little different. I mean a $5 universal remote can control just about any device. I think they'll get that down.

A generic abstraction level for print drivers would work too - but they don't do it.

Hell, maintaining compatibility between versions of office is too much for microsoft to accomplish.

I hope you are right. I still think their big issue is not being able to charge the extra $12/month for a card, as opposed to a whole box. I don't do it, but I could buy the whole, "Better to rent then to buy if it craps out on you." A card is a card, not really worth an extra $150/year just to hook cable up to another TV. I think they are looking for that profit margin that doesn't **** a whole lot of people off, more than finding a device people are clamoring for.

Is that really an issue or just something xbox'ers say to make themselves feel better about paying for something that's free on ps3? I can't recall one time since we've had our ps3 that it's been down. I've heard my son complain about lag a few times but that very well could have been our (Mediacrap) connection.

Ive had my PS3 for like 3 years and can't remember one time when PSN has been down when I've wanted it. The only times I haven't been able to access it are when they are doing maintenance and when I switched wireless routers and had to clear out the old IP addresses in order to get back on. Otherwise it has worked flawlessly.

umm... I guess you didn't want it April-May 2011? Because is was down for about 3 weeks straight, then.

Umm. If you read my post it clearly says that exact thing. It has never been down when I have wanted it. Why would I care about the network being down when I didn't want to use it. To say "well PSN was down for 3 weeks when I didn't want to use it so I'm never buying another Sony product ever again" would be pretty foolish, wouldn't it?

And god forbid companies ever have technical problems with anything. The 2 free games I received from Sony as part of this "inconvenience" is pretty good retribution.

I for one am excited for the rounds of console fanboy trolling and debate. We haven't had enough of that yet.

You remember that time Sony lost nearly 13000 credit card numbers and had 25 million accounts compromised? That was a laugh riot and a half.

Sony Online loses 12,700 credit card account numbers, 24.6 million accounts compromised [update 2] | Joystiq

Meh, taught people to not store their CC information in highly visible places. The rare times I want to buy something from the PSN or Apple's AppStore I'll buy a gift card and add funds that way. Don't trust people with your personal info and you won't have problems.

Sony is arrogant in every aspect of their business. Hell, they are the ones holding up iRadio right now because they want to be paid for songs skipped, meanwhile everyone else has signed on and is forced to wait, losing potential huge revenue.

I read a theory once that everything that Sony does is a vehicle to sell MemoryStik hardware.

How can they do that with iRadio?

I agree with this 100%. The internet is not private. Put your **** out there, someone, someday will find a way to steal it. When it comes to internet security, it's a matter averages. Just hope you aren't one of the people who gets the bad draw and your number comes up. I work for an online retailer, our department with the most employees, is in fraud prevention. IT's insane how many credit card numbers are floating around and people don't even realize it.

If you input your personal information and CC number into PSN or XBox live then you are a moron and its nobodies fault but your own that you were hacked.
