Holy crap.

Pope surprises me. Maybe he was the one that was making the stupid runningback changes that everyone was questioning midseason?

A huge start but I was hoping to see Bliel's name as well.

Still happy that changes are being made though.

Now the question becomes will he hire outside and try to get that big splash hire, or try to promote somebody with previous OC experience from within(Klenakis for example)

He is a good guy that had a tough job with our quarterback issues. It was time for a change though.

Wish it would have worked out for both, wish them both the best. Suprised to see Pope go....although now that I think of it, our RB's dance too much, never hit the hole fast enough and fumble too much. So maybe that was it.

Anyway, good luck to both.

Kinda surprised. Mess had his moments with good playcalls, but he also had some really mind boggling ones, and I think you could tell he was in a bit over his head to be a BCS level OC. His ability to develop QB's also left something to be desired.

He is a human being though, so I have empathy for him losing his job and wish him nothing but the best in the future.

This. Our offense looked worse than horrible at times...and others he looked like a genius in the playcalling. Part of me thinks he was getting better but at the same time i'm excited for the new hire. And I don't think you could keep him on staff and just demote him even though I think that's what the coaching staff would have liked. But I am not an insider.

For some reason, I wasn't expecting the move (and possibly not both coaches).

I imagine someone on CF is going to start a "OC hiring poll" within a few minutes.

If we don't get Ditka I'm done with isu football.

My guess is part of the reason Pope is going is simply so the next OC can bring in one of his own guys.

The RB substitutions (which was Pope's responsibility) were very puzzling at times.

So we will finish 1-11, no fans will show up to the Okie State, TCU, and Kansas, and Mess won't be fired. Is there anything else I'm missing that was constantly spewed as fact to back up arguments at us all year?

I'm awaiting Rhoads call. My experience speaks for itself.
