The south side as a ton of great places... As cybsball mentioned Fat Tuesday is amazing. Smitty Tenderloin is fabulous. And any pizza place along 9th St or nearby is great also. Love Paesano's.

Side note-
I love me a good restaurant thread. I know there's been a bunch on here but they never get old. So much good food in this area. If you are in Ankeny and you haven't eaten at Smokey D's yet you are behind

I beleive they will be named best resturant and best chef in town in the new Citiview. Same people as Gusto Pizza. Plus they actually make their own pasta in house.

Will I be burned at the stake if I say I was underwhelmed with Gusto?

Hidden gem's is a tough one because if it's that good then it won't be hidden for long. I don't think Thai Flavors is really hidden, it's just in a rough part of town but it's great. Taco's Mariana's is another place I'm afraid to leave my car but the food is good.

Forget the previously mentioned places for wings. All you need to know for wings is Gerri's Tavern by the fairgrounds. Very much a hole in the wall, but the wings are phenomenal.

Gerri's is tough to beat for wings and a pitcher. Wings are big and crispy, sauced perfectly. Don't be scared off by the place.

Smoked Chicken and Blackbean Nachos's (add lettuce and jalapeno) at Skip's on Fleur are great, too.

I don't think that they're on the same level, I'd take LK a hundred times over Cosi Cocina - but CC is still better than any Italian we have in Ames, and I'd venture to say it's still the second best in Des Moines. What are the other options?

I second everything you've said. LL's "Chicken Spadini" is fantastic.

For you Ankeny folks, in addition to Yankee Clipper's taco Tuesday, I highly recommend Leaning Tower pizza! I also enjoy the Pizza Ranch chicken!
