Agree with this. He could time this stuff better. Plus over twitter it comes across as snarky. Not a good look for a Big 12 AD.
Plus if students are busy raising money for cancer research, kinda hard to knock them for that.

Oh I get it. It is alright for fans to tweet BS straight at Matt Thomas, but if JP comes across snarky OMG!

Dance Marathon is just that a 24 hour dance marathon. I am pretty sure the small % of students that missed the game for dance marathon could have and should have rescheduled.

Dance Marathon is an excuse and not the reason about 1000-1500 students didn't show up.

Just got home, I was shocked at the lack of students. Most of the upper section was empty.

I believe the whole point of the marathon is that you're there the entire day.

I agree that at times JP makes some comments that make me shake my head, but I didn't think his tweet today was offensive. I thought he was just trying to explain why they oversell the student section because I am sure there have been times that the students have not been happy with this policy. He did thank those that attended. It's all about supply and demand and making the most profit. I wish the student would fill it up each game because it's great when they are there, but if they don't show up consistently, give others the opportunity.

I don't know if this would work, but I would keep selling the 3500 tickets. And then the first 2500 students to the first game of the year would be guaranteed entrance into the next game as long as they kept showing up to all of the games. Tell them they have to be there 30 min before the game and if they don't make it, open up those seats to any of the 1000 students that didn't get in to the game before. The people who didn't show up would have to wait until a game didn't sell out to get into one. That way you have to come to every game to be guaranteed entrance.

I take it the tickets are not transferable to other students? If they are, then there really is no excuse for not having 2500 out of over 30,000 students on campus show up is there? If they are not transferable, I guess it is more understandable, but still not a very good showing. Students need to show up, or he might cut the allotment even further next year.

No it isn't you get together as teams and have a set or 2 of people always dancing. You get your donations as a group. One person doesn't need to dance for 24 hours. They have had this for yrs I am 34 and Dance Marathon was around before I got there.

There are multiple marathon events

I think a problem with today's attendance, is students didn't want to get there early in order to wait in line in sub zero wind chill, and students assumed that there would be a long line. I know I didn't show up until 11 today, was expecting to stand in line, but they had already let everyone in.

If you miss/missed more than 3 games in a season you should be barred or booted upstairs.

No excuse to miss more than 3 home games when you can pass them off to other students. Three misses is about right for the upper limit. Sick or tests that can't be missed, but even in those situations you can give/sell the tickets to other students, right?

This from the guy that is pretty black and white when it comes to people complaining about refs. Over The Back isn't a foul right?

If you are that black and white about refs why you making excuses bro? Face it the students were lazy and didn't show

I was less concerned about the lack of students and more concerned about the lack of student enthusiasm (though I'm always concerned about student attendance). Even missing that chunk up top, the remaining students can usually compensate. Sitting on the side opposite the band, probably like 5-10% of the students were actually cheering. Maybe those missing the game for Dance Marathon are the type that get into the game, and maybe the shorter wait time for the game allowed the too-cool-for-school crowd to sit down closer, but it was a morgue in there more often than not.

Oh well.. Just keep winning.

At ISU, our big event happens in January. At this event, our participants (dancers) stay on their feet for FIFTEEN hours to symbolize our support for the families who spend countless hours in hospital waiting rooms. But it's not a punishment for us, it's a party. We listen to music, play games, hang out with the kids we help, and even do a bit of dancing.

The Basics:
  • Arrive at the MU between 7:00-8:00AM
  • We will have a coat check for you to store your personal belongings
  • Stand for 15 hours (no sitting, no caffeine)
  • Breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks will be provided
  • Learn a Morale Dance which will be performed hourly
  • Meet the awesome MIRACLE KIDS and their families
  • The celebration ends around midnight

Over the back isn't a foul.

And I never said they weren't lazy. I said they didn't want to show up because they thought they would have to wait in line, and they didn't want to do it.
