Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Based on the Clone talent moving on this year, it must be attractive for him and i hope he recognizes the potential. Where better to make some noise than ISU?

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Ok I"m not gonna sweat it anymore so I will leave it with this...How many times has RV seen ISU on the big stage this year? 5-6 times? ESPN, Big Monday, Super Tuesday etc.. Mussberger, Fran Etc.. Media has been loving the Mayor all year. ISU has had how many stories on ESPN? dozens. If he wants to go play for UNLV and never be seen on one single national audience then so be it. But if I'm a top recruit with NBA dreams, I'm certainly not going to UNLV. But hey...that's me. See you all Saturday.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Obviously it's great that we will know in early Feb. instead of late March or April so we can plan accordingly. I don't think there is really much else the Cyclones can do, this season has worked out about as best as possible to land him. I'm not sure if it has been mentioned in any of the previous 9,000+ posts and since most of those posts are opinions, my attempt to grasp at straws would be that Kane's prominence is a huge plus in attempting to land Vaughn. One advantage the blue bloods have is that their players are in the national spotlight. Well Kane has showed that you can be in that discussion while playing at ISU.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Ok one more, lol. I just watched his interview with ESPN on ESPN page which was Monday after his return for first time from knee injury. Dude asked him what will be deciding factor in college he chooses and his response was going to a place where he can be with a coach that can best improve his game and be in a system that fits his style of play..more or less. Dave Rice? really? Call me too optimistic but the Mayor might be the best teacher of shooters in the nation. I mean how many national tv games and national articles does it take to convince a top recruit that the Mayor's NBA system is the best to play in.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Brent Mussberger comes into room: "Coaches, the final rose. Rashad, when you are ready........"
Brent exits. tense music. glances.
"Coach Hoiberg, will you accept this rose?"
"Absolutely!"
"I knew you were here for the right reasons."
"Yes, this is amazing!"
Bill Self turns on heel crying.

I went from excited to hear the announcement to readying myself for disappointment in a day. I'm just gonna tell myself he's gone until I hear otherwise, that way it won't sting if something bad happens.

There is nothing to feel bad about here. We are in the running for one of the best players in the country and we'll be great next year either way.

Does this make Bill Self the next bachelorette?

Do you guys think us landing/not landing Vaughn will effect Marvin Clarks decision at all?

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Saturday

Who would you guys say our top target was last year? Thomas? And the year before that? Niang? Seems like Fred usually gets his guy.

Not sure about top recruit but I remember Fred being in early on Tyler Ennis. Also, in previous years weren't we close to landing Stauskas? Sam Dekker too? - that is a good sign IMO. Add the fact that even if he misses, he can still go the free agency route and land an uber-talented transfer like Kane...I could go on and on and on...

Nothing to base this on, but I have a feeling that Fred may put plan B into action rapidly should we not get him.
If we have both scholarships available wouldn't we be going after both of them? I think we must have some Indian Hills guys that we say can come on if we don't get one or both of them.

Yeah, I would think plan B would be either a JUCO or transfer from another D1 school. I think there is room for Clark regardless of what Vaughn does

Perhaps you are not alluding to this, but imo our recruitment of Clark is not related to Vaughn, other than Vaughn and Clark would make a heck of a duo.
