This. I thought this team coming into the season had the potential to go up to 10 deep with Naz, SDW, Morris, Bubu (pre-suspension), and Bluford. Also, I did not foresee Gibson and Edozie being essentially bench warmers the whole season. Stuff happens.

You expected 12 guys to play?

Expecting Bluford and/or SDW to be big contributors was foolish. Why does everyone always think ten guys are going to play, let alone make a significant impact? 7-8 guys will play and 3-4 will have a big impact on the game. Get used to it.

Well, Bluford was a juco who was recruited to contribute. Fred missed.

That's a small majority of posters on here. At least in SDW's case it is.

I thought it was pretty obvious during his recruitment that he was a long shot to contribute. His stats and videos, along with the timing of his commitment, made it seem like Hoiberg was flipping a coin.

Agreed, the rest for the most part are to provide good competition on the scout team. That is a big advantage when getting transfers like Nader and McKay, they are good enough to play/start but cant so our starters get to match up with quailty players in practice every day.

I'll be so interested to how next year goes.

Niang, Hogue, Nader, and McKay rotating in the forward spots.

Morris, Thomas, Naz, and Custer rotating in the guard spots.

Those 8 we will know are on the team next year and 5 of the 8 are significant contributors this year. McKay was a 4 star JUCO so you have to imagine he will be contributing especially after once he decided to transfer we contacted him again after recruiting him straight out of JUCO. Nader seems like a contributor. I would think Custer plays a role similar to Morris from early in the year, don't think he'll increase to starting role. Not even counting Vaughn or Clark if they commit.

Hoiberg has never played real deep but next year it looks like he will have the guys to play 9 maybe 10.

I am not convinced that is depth with above average Big 12 players as much as it is a bunch of guys that are equally talented and unproven.

I'm not saying that all 10 players are above average big 12 players am I? I just stated that he could go 10 deep. I don't think that's out of line with that line of thinking.

Sorry the, No, no, no... I meant GOOD depth. Not Hawkeye depth comment had me confused.

If you think not all 10 players will be above average Big 12 players, then I am surprised you think we are 10 deep. Fred has never shown to play guys just to have a bigger rotation. They better be at least average Big 12 guys, or they are not depth.

The majority of posters on this board are idiots. That's obvious.

...I think in this case you are both right!

Touche... I can see how you'd think that. When I look at those first 10 players noted though, I'm pretty confident that they're all at least average or above average minus maybe custer and clark who is an unknown like you mention.

We know what we'll get with pretty much everyone that plays minutes this year

Niang - above average next year
Hogue - above average next year
Morris - average this year maybe above average next year?
Thomas - average this year maybe above average next year?
Naz - average this year maybe above average next year?
Mckay - above average next year... I could see this as an unknown however by everything I've read he's better than Hogue so I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.
Nader - Above average next year... again, could see him as an unknown but from everything noted so far, he's the one that's lighting it up in practice.
Vaughn - If everything falls into place and he's as good as advertised, he's probably the best on the team next year or one of the best.
Custer - Might be wishful thinking on my part but I have a good feeling that he's going to come in and give us Morris type numbers this year (but maybe less due to needing of spreading minutes around).
Clark - He looks like a poor man's ejim. Maybe he get's minutes as a freshman, maybe he doesn't. I suppose it depends on how we do up until the point Mckay comes in at mid season point.

...I don't think those are too lofty expectations but maybe they are?

Don't know about his rebounding/tenacity yet, but it would be hard to beat Ejim in those areas. However, Clark does appear to be a much better ball handler/driver than Ejim.

I'm surprised at how many people on here see clark getting significant minutes next year as a freshman. I realize there will be some extra minutes to fill till McKay becomes eligible but I see those minutes going to Gibson and edozie.

I think it's pretty clear he loves ISU. He'll be a Cyclone as long as we offer

huh? If he's already used up one of his five "official" visits on us, isn't it safe to say he already has an offer? After RV,( and you could use Grandstaff at OkSt as another example) I'm not sure how anyone can say someone will be a Cyclone until you see signed LOI.
