Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

Unfollowing Fred and Abdelmassih could mean absolutely nothing but if he was coming here why would he eliminate his two future coaches?

Well. He doesn't follow any other coaches besides the unlv assistant that was the former Findley coach. I am assuming he would have known that guy before he transferred to Findley.

Yep, Simon the current UNLV asst. coach was at Findley. he was the one that was that got Vaughn and Kaffey to move down to Vegas in the first place. IMO, this thing was over the day they moved down there. That school teaches players how to market and maximize their career. By waiting and having a big announcement late in the recruiting process is just marketing the Vaughn brand. Can we have an Iowa State booster fund a prep school in Des Moines and bring in elite talent to funnel to Iowa State?

Doesn't seem to be helping UNLV win any games in an easier conference.

We've already had seven or eight players produce more wins and stats for Hoiberg than their #1 draft pick did for them.

I think Melvin Ejim and ISU just marketed themselves better than UNLV has in a decade. Sportscenter was almost entirely Ejim and the sideshow of a player attacking a fan.

I don't doubt some of the prep school and hush hush deals, but I highly question that there's a better way to market yourself than winning. Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid are marketing themselves quite well playing for proven coaches at winning programs, that aint UNLV right now. It is becoming ISU more and more every year it seems.

Now that I think of it are we sure he was following Hoiberg and Abdelmassih before?

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

Vaughn's tweet tonight was in reference to someone that he trusted. He had a meal with them recently where he shared the news about his upcoming commitment to UNLV. This so-called "friend" turned around and leaked the news to Jerry Meyer of 247 Sports. Vaughn just got so angry with this guy that he had to send the tweet.
That's what I've been thinking. I feel like someone he felt he could trust is opening their mouth, but again this is all conjecture and me preparing to be disappointed.

I'm trying to fuel my pessimism in preparation for Tuesday.

That's my theory anyway to keep my expectations as low as possible for Tuesday.

Your scenario sounds logical to me.

Maybe he unfollowed after reading Matt A's pregame tweet. Pretty much captured all the reasons to be pumped for game day and being a Cyclone, but not necessarily meaningful for someone who chose not to. On a side note, I can't believe I'm saying this, but yesterday I was bummed about this whole thing, and today it's like I was over it, almost a relief, and I can't wait to see who will fill the two scholarships remaining. Maybe it was just the Ejim performance or being back in Hilton with friends, but I feel I can actually say "UNLV,... okay, so be it". If 3-4 years of courting him didn't do it, then we respect his decision of wanting to play with 2 other top25 recruits/friends in a place where he apparently feels comfortable. Good luck to him and like I said, I can't wait to see who we get for 2014-2015. We have a great program and coach. What's not to be happy about?

I agree. I've basically realized he probably knew he wanted to go to UNLV the whole time and I'm not even as upset right now as I thought I would be. I've moved on. Time to go out and land Marvin Clark and an impact transfer who can play right away.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

So for someone who doesn't follow any of this, what's changed from last week to now? It seemed like a majority were predicting ISU and now it's UNLV?

It seems like the 247 guy gained some solid info by the way he is acting, and that info says UNLV.

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

If he ends up choosing the good guys, great. If he chooses UNLV, let's move on. It would have been nice to see him in cardinal and gold, but our program will be fine. Go Cyclones!

Re: Rashad Vaughn - Announcing Tuesday

UNLV fans like to point out that make the tournament consistently. They are going to make it again this year it appears as they have 16 wins already. But really, they are not playing good basketball, their schedule is so pathetic. They picked up home court a win with a 48-47 win? That follows a drubbing against CSU. Goodness that is just terrible.

Umm. UNLV will not be making the tourney, lol. They have to win the MWC. Their RPI is 104. They ain't making an at large bid.

And, I highly doubt RV unfollowed CFH and Matt A or vice versa. They have known each other since he was 13. Highly doubt it.

I guess the CIT and CBI are technically tournaments but unless they win their conference tournament its the only tournament they might go to. . . Their rpi is below 100 right now. They usually are a lot better than this but this year they really suck.

Unfortunately he did. He's currently following 491 people. I simply went to the list of those he's following and "Ctrl-F"'d both "Coach", "Hoiberg", and "Matt". I get a whole lot of other coaches when I search "Coach", Paige Hoiberg when I search "Hoiberg", and Matt Thomas when I search "Matt". He is no longer following Fred or Matt.

Does that make me pathetic? Perhaps. But I blame it on a slow overnight shift.
