Call it whatever you want, it's crap. Should a blog, especially one hosted by a major news outlet such as ESPN, have lower standards for the quality of its content? Maybe we'll disagree on the answer, but I don't believe that labeling content as a "blog" gives the author license to publish junk without expecting criticism of its quality.

Like I said, that's the entire point and you're taking it in hook, line, and sinker. They WANT criticism. It's like pro-wrestling, the ideal match is 50% of the crowd likes one wrestler and dislikes the other wrestler, and 50% of the crowd likes the other wrestler and dislikes the first wrestler.

Funny. My parents attended Kansas, my grandparents, etc... and you realize that about 30 minutes from KU campus is another state, correct? Do Iowa State fans only live in Iowa? Are those that move to other parts of the nation now "bandwagon" fans? Good grief...

You have never lived in Kansas... Why are you comparing yourself to Iowa State fans who moved out of state?

Sometimes I'm shocked at how defensive some of our fanbase gets. I'm a diehard ISU fan but even I have noticed the "slump." We've been missing a lot of shots as of late. In a lot of cases it is because someone is trying to do to much (this goes for nearly everyone). We need to make good passes down low and get more assists. The driving/difficult off-balance/pray-for-foul shot is not a high percentage make for us (nor are free throws). And three point shooting is down this year as we don't have anyone that is automatic like we have in year's past, though I think next year we'll have 3-4 guys who can drill threes (Custer, Long, Thomas).

Some on here need to chill the eff out and actually watch the games. If you only want to read about rainbows and unicorns feel free to do so. Personally, I'll read the good and the bad as you can learn a lot from the bad. There was nothing in the article that was bashing ISU. In fact, calling it a slump is actually reasonable IMO... We need to get our make percentage back up if we want to beat Texas. Their rebounding will kill us if we're missing.

The article has a critical tone, but I don't see that much to argue with it, and certainly nothing to get bent out of shape about. The figure about being 6th in the Big 12 in pts/ possession is surprising and a bit concerning.

However, the statistics that our points scored per possession is slightly higher than our points allowed per possession makes sense given we're a bit over 0.500.

I feel like a broken record, but if we can just do a better job weathering other teams' runs, and keeping Morris at the point in those situations should go a long way in that, will help enormously.

That's partially my point; they care more about stirring the pot than they do about publishing substantive, quality content. It's nothing more than trolling masquerading as legitimate sports journalism. Maybe you're cool with that, but I think it's nothing but a waste of time and a disservice to good analysts and their work.

I also realize we're talking about ESPN, which has "entertainment" as the first word in its name and shouldn't be expected to be a bastion of journalistic integrity a la The New York Times, but still, crap is crap. Let's call it what it is.

It's not a bad article. We have been in a bit of slump....However none of this will matter when March arrives. We will be one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament. The only team I've seen that really play better than ISU at it's best is Kansas.

This. ISU just came out of a stretch where they played 8 consecutive games against teams that were either ranked or have been ranked this season (Baylor, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, K-State, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State). Iowa State went 4-4 over that stretch which realistically isn't bad at all. Now coming out of a stretch like that you could expect ISU to be a bit worn down. They played mediocre against TCU (minus Ejim), they played awful against West Virginia, and they looked much better for 30 minutes against Tech but took a 10 minute nap in the 2nd half.

I do find the article incredibly short sighted in that regard. Do you think a teams stats on offense and defense would be trending up or down after that brutal 8 game stretch?

Of course they are going to be trending down. The West Virginia loss was bad... really bad... but can you blame the Clones for looking completely out of gas? That brutal 8 game stretch took a lot out of them and then they had a quick turnaround from the TCU game on a Saturday to travel to West Virginia to face the Mountaineers on a Monday. Now they looked much better against Tech... they looked like they are getting their legs back under them now. They played a great 30 minutes against Tech getting up 18 points in the 2nd half but they probably put it on cruise control a little too early. That being said they were able to turn it on in the final 3 minutes to secure the win. Is Tech good? Not really... That being said they have been playing quite well lately and you have to give them credit for that.

I don't buy into ISU being in a slump at this point. Have they been playing their best? No, but you could see they are starting to turn the corner a bit in the Tech game.

I don't particularly care for college football. It's a far inferior product to NFL football. If I am going to spend money on a football gam, I go down to KC and watch a Chiefs game. I thought this thread was about an article in ESPN?

Haven't lived in Mizzourah for about 28 years, either, but we could do this all day... If people don't want their thread thrown off track then can you please stick to the topic?

I think people just want you to leave......

An dpeople seem to be missing the fact that he questioned whether or not they were slumping; he didn't SAY they were. "Planning for Success: Cyclone slump?" was the title. With a question mark. He also questioned whether or not these stats would make any difference in the game versus Texas; he didn't say they would. "Might Texas' visit to Hilton on Tuesday night expose the gulf between the two? " With a question mark. He didn't write the blog entry to annoy people or with an agenda; he wrote it to get people to want to know the answer to the questions he posed. Answers that can be found only by watching the game on ESPN2 tomorrow, the network that pays this writers salary. This isn't complicated, people. There is no great conspiracy.

Question: Do you consider DSM Register articles on ISU "Substantive" and "quality"?

This I agree with, don't really think he was saying we were slumping but we've been an average team over the past 5 games. All that matters is the W's and L's.

I don't mind your opinion and you are right from time to time, but no matter what the topic you always make it a negative about ISU, which is the irritating part. I'm not sure I've seen one compliment. We have Hawk fans that speak more highly of ISU than you do.

One of the best games of the season was at OSU....that was two weeks ago. We are fine. Honestly I have no idea what people expect, you don't just go out there and run people out of the gym every night.

So sad how people can get so uptight about hearing facts.

I imagine a lot of you are the guy that got so upset about me passing him the other night that he floored his minivan to catch up to me. Then proceeded to lay on the horn, flip me off with both hands while driving, motion for me to pull over, and proceeded to do this from the mile-long bridge to the Grimes exit. Had my ten year old on the edge of tears.

Relax people! Most people aren't out to get you or our beloved Cyclones.
