A #1 seed would be a dream but I wonder how you can give it to a team that finished tied for third in its conference. KU fans would be irate if ISU were seeded higher than the Jayhawks.

I agree. The more that I look at it, I think KU has the best case for a #1 seed. However, the 9 losses and no Embiid is going to make it very hard for them to get the #1 seed. It would be 2 more losses than any former #1 seed in history.

Team in first has an injury derate and other teams played in inferior conferences and/or had weaker non-conference.

We didnt even get a 1 seed in 2000. Dont expect the selection committee to do us any favors.

I'd almost prefer the number 3 seed if it's the region that has 1 seed wichita and 2 seed Wisconsin!

On he ESPN show, the guy that was formally on the selection committee showed that Lunardi had us #11 on the seeding list. Clearly we're a 3 seed then and not even the top two of that seed line.

I'd take that if it means a 3 in STL.

Locations are assigned after top 4 seeds in each regional are decided. They are not pre-set. The start at the top of the s-curve and each team gets the closest location left. So if KU and WSU are above us in the S-Curve, they will get St. Louis. If we are above KU in S-Curve, we get St. Louis. It doesn't have anything to do with what region we end up in or what seed we ultimately get.

Lunardi is just average at getting seeds right. All he does well is getting the 68 right. And that a lot of people do well.

This is according to a media member and somebody who has absolutely no vote on who gets seeded where.

I don't think we'll get a 1 seed (obviously) but those two guys are right that our compared to the other candidates for the 1 seed, our resume is equal or better in a lot of ways. The only one that I think might have a step over us, is Michigan because they won the conference. I also think that if you put our resume with Duke or Kansas's name on it, there wouldn't be a question that they'd get a 1 seed.

All of that being said, it is darn cool to even have teams mention us for that. It's really great that we'll get at least a 3 seed and we have an outside shot at a 2 seed.

It has been a pretty great weekend!

The media was late to the party on that team. The 2000 team wasn't even ranked until halfway through the season with a record of 18-3, with losses to Drake in the second game of the year, #1 Cincy, 2OT at OU, and a win over#12 KU. Then they showed up in the polls at #20. Then we went 6-1 (24-4 overall with wins over #24 KU, #14 UT and #10 OSU, loss in OT at Colorado) before we got into the top 10 at #10. That was one week before the conference tourney. Had that team been ranked earlier in the season like this year's team was, they certainly would have had a shot at a one seed. By the time the nets were being cut down, everyone realized they had undervalued that team. That being said, I don't think this team is a 1 seed though they are certainly capable of winning the damn thing

The 2000 season is on page 13 of the linked PDF.

"I'd have Iowa State clearly on the number 2 line tonight. Cyclones could even make a case for a 1 if Michigan loses."

"Iowa State has a dozen wins over at-large NCAA tourney teams -- and six of its seven losses came to tourney teams."

I would pee in my Wheaties if ISU was a #1 seed! :)
