If producers really think that, then they're idiots. There's a reason the gif of that Kansas fan crying keeps showing up on here and it isn't because we love his passion.

Oh right. Because the producers have the cyclone message boards in mind when they are deciding which camera to switch to.

But we're fairly representative of everyone else, a bit more loyal but fairly representative. We aren't the only fans who find stuff like that funny (show Duke fans a North Carolina fan doing that and they'll think it's hilarious), and we aren't the only fans who think it's rude showing kids crying on tv.

During the Kansas loss just now, they kept showing a Kansas kid fan crying. Personally, I think it is horrible to show that on TV. He's a kid. He could get made fun of back in school. Just seems low.
not sure if serious

Years ago channel 10 showed a child crying because his dog was shot and killed. I called the station to ask why and to voice my opinion that it was a low class move. They laughed and said it was what the viewers expected.

I think saying this is going to last for years on the internet is a bit much. Kid might get attention for a week or two, but I doubt it goes beyond that.

The gif of one of the Hoiberg twins crying last year made its rounds again this year. Who says this won't appear again when some fan wants to jab at KU fans?

Even if it doesn't, the point is that it is going to be there for anyone to find down the road.

First, we are talking about a kid. And the kid wasn't there to be on TV, he was there to cheer on his team. Apparently he is the son of the KU SID so he doesn't have you average fan's connection to the game.

And while it is a matter of being caught up in the moment, that moment now lasts for years with the Internet.

I didnt know know that some basic human compassion was wussifying America.

Don't take the kid to a basketball game then. Seriously dude. KIDS CRY. If you can't handle a kid crying on TV you should just end it now. Cuz there are FAR WORSE things that happen to kids in this world then being caught on TV crying...jesus.

Yes, there are...and many of them are out of our control. The network CHOSE to repeatedly show this kid, just as they chose to repeatedly show young Hoiberg. That's not showing emotion, that's making fun of a child. If an adult continually mocks your child, will you tell that child to "grow a pair"?

I don't have a problem with a crowd shot...and a child in the middle of it crying. The problem I have is the repeated close-ups and focus on the one child, like the repeated showing of the clip last year. It's adults mocking kids...and it's wrong. If you can't see that, there's really nothing else to say.

Sorry, this whole thread is stupid. These kids are lucky enough to grow up in the wealthiest nation IN THE WORLD. Have parents with enough money to be taken to these games. I know kids who have been raped, mutilated, abused, dirt poor, think of it and it happens. IF YOU ALL CANNOT SEE THAT BEING SHOWN ON TV CRYING IS NOT A BIG DEAL. (not matter how many times) Then there is nothing left to say because you all can say that you "get it" all you want, but YOU DON'T SEE THE BIG PICTURE. period.

That kid being shown crying on TV will be forgotten in less than 24 hours. I bet a lot of them either don't know they are being mocked or don't care. CHILDREN FORGET REALLY FAST. Most of them will laugh about it later if they even know about it AT ALL. Kids getting murdered across the world will get ZERO press cover and I'm sure they would trade ANYTHING to be shown crying on TV compared to the crappy lives they have...this is just asinine at this point by all the "get crying kids off tv" crowd. I'm done.

Umm, not a chance in hell. It's them capturing the moment and all the emotions that are wrapped up in the NCAA tournament. If you consider that to be "mockery" of a kid crying, then wow.

If the worst thing you see on the internet/TV today is a kid crying about a GAME, consider yourself lucky. Otherwise, I pity you when you step out into the real world.

If you are still playing a gif of a KU kid crying from the 2014 round of 32 a year from now, I think we know who has the issues.

I really want you to go more in depth about this. I think you're just scratching the surface of how to put his in proper perspective.

You're not getting it. If the worst thing that happens to that kid today is his team lost a GAME, then he should consider himself lucky.

No the worst thing isn't the game. It is that the TV station exploited his emotion countless times during the broadcast, setting him up for ridicule on the national stage. It isn't about the kid crying or not. The whole point of the thread is that CBS didn't need to repeatedly show it, thereby setting the kid up for embarrassment and humiliation.

Again, if that's the worst thing to happen to him today, he should consider himself lucky. If you think this is terrible, I'd hate to see your reaction to something that is actually a tragedy.
