Is he not eligible if he didn't graduate, officially or unofficially?

Also, just curious what people's opinions are of Fizer and Vic getting up there. Their numbers stack up pretty well too.

Big-Victa is on my short-list, career-wise.

Fifth in points per season on ISU all-time list
Fourth in career points
10th in scoring average, career
5th in total rebounds, career

61% career FG% (1st)

I'm sorry but the guys in the rafters don't disappear in big games. Ejim had 3 pts and 3 fouls with 5 to play last night. And he was being a complete **** by staying away from contact. I can't imagine Fizer not wanting to be the man on a stage like tonight. Heck I'm not even convinced Ejim was the best player on our team. Kane had led the team all year and was by far and away the main target to the opponents defense scheme most nights.

He was the first player to play 4 years in a row at ISU is something like 15 years. I have a feeling a lot of our current freshmen and freshmen down the road will do the same (Niang). You can't hang everybody's number. Let's wait 10 years to see how many of those records still stand.

Besides Garrett. Cripes I didn't even have to try to find that one. Also, Niang won't touch Melvin's double double or rebounding numbers. It won't be close. I bet he doesn't get to his steal numbers either.

This should be a very simple exercise, folks. Ask yourself, how many Iowa State basketball players better epitomize the ideal student-athlete more than Melvin Ejim does?

I challenge you to list more than three people.

Hang the jersey.

2nd team all american big 12 poy 1643 points 1051 rebounds 49% fg% hang this jersey

Career averages of 12.2 ppg and 7.8 rpg are good enough to get your jersey in the rafters?

His best scoring season (this year at 17.8 ppg) doesn't rank in the top 20 of season scoring averages. His best season of rebounding (last year at 9.3 rpg) doesn't rank in the top 20 of season rebounding averages either.

He has been four years of pretty good.

And if everyone was judged on just one stat, your douchebaggery would be valid.

But it's not.

he was a good player for 4 years but I really don't think he was good enough to hang his jersey. I know the guys not on the hang his jersey band wagon are getting roasted on here, but I don't know why. shouldnt the rafters be reserved for great players or legends not just guys who stuck around for 4 years and where the 3rd best on a good team.

Classic CF.....if you don't agree with the herd of delusion...you're a dbag.

Longevity helped Ejim immensely in tallying numbers....so while a very good player...no way is it jersey hang able.

Having said that...I've never seen someone improve from day one...until his last day as Ejim did. Unreal how much his game improved.

Going back to 1957 Iowa State has had 5 people win Conference POY, 2 are hanging in the rafters, 2 didn't graduate, and 1 is Melvin Ejim.

Yes, playing in games is a big factor. Since when is that stat discriminatory? Kane as a higher average, but did not play enough games at ISU. Let us know what the correct ratio is.

#ejimtotherafters

Let's get it trending.

That's a terrible hashtag, might as well go with #hangejim.

I think he does deserve it, B12 POY, 2nd team All-American, not a lot of ISU player's have had better careers in terms of overall numbers or honors.

This is a great point. Longevity shouldn't be a liability. If anything, stringing together four consecutive years of solid, improving play should support Ejim's case because it shows he's not a flash in the pan.

I'm still waiting to see someone list the Iowa State players who they think embody all the desirable traits of a student-athlete more than Ejim does...

When did season scoring and rebounding averages become the only metric in determining whose jersey to hang?

Overall body of work = Hang Ejim's jersey
