That wasn't a riot. It was a gathering. The worst thing I saw that night was jaywalking.
Would people be outraged if no light poles ever got torn down?
That was the big mistake imo and where it got really bad. Then you hear that it actually did hit a guy in the head. Flipping cars on their sides and throwing beers are one thing, but there's not a lot of danger involved with those. Metal light posts going down like that is seriously dangerous.
It's a pretty unfortunate situation.
No, that is THE WORST sterotype you can ever make. way to group. *******. think about **** before you type.
You shouldn't need to wait until you get slapped on the wrist to realize you are doing something wrong.
Oh right, I forgot I was on CF.
uhhh.. screw Greeks! They small bad and live in broken-down houses! yeah! We don't need to be paddled to have friends!
I can guarantee you that a good portion of the students out there were not 21. Towers, Friley, and Greek Row are all close to Campustown. Think of the huge number(record numbers, in fact) of freshman and sophomore aged students that were in close proximity when this who thing started. A lot of them probably joined in just to say they were a part of it. Im not saying its the underclassmen's fault-this could have been incited by anyone-but I do suspect they were a part of the reason it got out of hand.
Easy Drama Queen... I never said they "small" bad.
And if my friends want to paddle me? Lets get weird.

So if you are not acting in a violent manner or with intent to act in a violent manner and are in a place where you can't hear a peace officer give an order to disperse then it sounds to me like you CAN stand around and watch...in order to be taking part in a riot they would have to be acting in a "violent" or "disturbing" manner, as riot is defined in 723.1.
Those both still really suck obviously (especially if its your car.) I think it comes down to injuries or (god forbid) deaths.
If no light posts went down, but someone was just as equally hurt because of a car flipping or beer bottle - I think people would still be just as upset about the riots.
Just promise us when APD leaves a message to call them back you will start a thread on itI don't think standing around off the streets (as ordered by the police) is wrong. Especially at the distance I was at.
I'm all in favor of canceling VEISHEA. If it returns in future years, cut it way back. Why does it need to be a week long celebration? A Fri-Sun event is easily sufficient.
I think next year should be cancelled entirely and I wouldn't be mad if Leath handed down a 5 year ban.
On another note, why have they not installed permanent HD surveillance cameras in Campustown??
Unless you get hit in the head with a flying beer bottle, or the tipped car falls over on you...
I doubt the majority of the students in this class were out.
But I'm sure at least 90% of Tri Delts and DZ's were out there.
I'm also sure the majority of Greeks weren't out there. But it's a select few houses that are nuts.

Throwing a chance for broad generalizations - but what majors do you think were represented in these pictures?
I guess cops told a bunch of students that 75% of arrests last night in Ames were on non-ISU students. Four people tweeted it just a few minutes ago.
