Exactly, which is what the person I was replying to was assuming.
He was saying he should be charged with attempted manslaughter, if he dies. Which isn't even an actual charge. He was just mixing up the word attempted with involuntary.
Correct. Manslaughter, involuntary, attempted, murder, whatever they'll be charged with something along those lines.
Agreed, VEISHEA is an awesome thing. I also think it should be a fun time to enjoy the spring, drinking, and the school celebration. But just drink and have fun, no point in the other stuff.
I realize that's a lot easier said than done. I don't know how you put constraints on things, especially with so many out of towners and non students.
You could somehow control Welch as that is where it seems to happen, but how is the question.

I think Leath is in a very tough position regarding this year. My gut reaction was shut it down, but I think that is tough to do at this point. You would eliminate the safe official events and still have people around partying. I am not sure how a curfew would work. Would it just be on campus and Campustown? There are people who have legitimate reasons to be out at night.

Speaking of big wins and Lincoln Way, back in 1999, I was 8, and my dad and I were heading into the Campus Bookstore when we heard police sirens. I turn around, and Cy has his head out of the sunroof going nuts and getting pulled over. I was scarred for life.
I thought they added a zero tolerance policy into the student hand book after 2004. If you riot in any way you are expelled with no questions asked.
I've said multiple times that it's 3-4 frats/sororities. You're the one that keeps bringing up dumb instances.

I was at ISU from 92-96 and haven't seen any beer stands/gardens/etc. The only difference then is that we could drink in the dorms.
Have they not tried these things in years past? Serious question. I thought they were going through extraordinary lengths after the reinstatement in '05 (??)
I'd hate to see it go away. Not that I've been back for VEISHEA since ..... forever I guess. So I too don't have a dog in this fight. But I loved it when I was there and would hate to see the current and future students lose it.
But it certainly isn't what it was, hasn't been for some time, and seems to garner more baggage as it goes on.
It used to be a campus celebration. Even when I was there, and myself included, it was a reason to get blitzed. Now (and I realize most joke about this, but still) it seems like there's an expectation that you will get blitzed AND bust some @#$& up.
Here's a novel concept. Why can't people just party without rioting? Hmmm there's a crazy thought.
More people get drunk on Bourbon Street in New Orleans about every night. There's Summerfest, Lollapalooza, and god knows how many other humongous parties that almost never result in riots. You have to ask yourself why has it become a trend to start rioting during VEISHEA? It's not just one instance we're talking about.
Just get drunk and have fun. Why the hell does it need to turn into a riot?
This is why it needs to be canceled. Clearly something about VEISHEA has encouraged people to riot because it's happened multiple times. I'm not sure there's anything you can do to prevent something that has kind of become the whole theme of what VEISHEA is now known for. Only way to prevent it is to cancel it.

So just throwing out a question. At what point does someone become uninvolved? Do they have to be a certain distance away? Not chanting? Not throwing stuff? What about the people on their balconies recording and chanting? Are they involved?
Because you're coming off as a guy who has a vendetta to bag on Greeks in every post. I was Greek, and I agree that there are some ********* houses. But I don't rub my testicles all over Greeks because of a few bad apples.
Where's the line? I dunno. But every single person who was chanting was 100% involved. Zero question as to that.
so you're grouping 59 organizations on campus based off of 3/4 fraternities and sororities actions?
You clearly know NOTHING About greek life in general.
