I really, really, REALLY want to punch every one of those ************* rioters in the face.

At least then those idiots would notice the pain, because I guarantee you most of them don't give a **** about this.

My 3 year old son just LOVES to riot on Welch after a good parade....thank our lucky stars that we got rid of all activities VEISHEA including the parade so he doesn't have this behavior next year

Still does not give an excuse to have a freaking light pole go on top of his head! I say that's crossing the line. Not to mention all the people just standing there with their phones out recording it. bit absurd if you would ask me.

Then punish those involved, cancel Veishea next year and resume the following with a better plan in place.

First off, that dude has no sympathy from me because he was dead center in the mob. Not an outsider. Dead freaking center, drunk out of his mind. "Just passing by" that's a joke

But now we get to have the fun game of instead of knowing exactly what weekend people will riot, it could be any random weekend! Traditions are traditions.

If you know someone who was part of the riot this spring, make sure and thank them personally for VEISHEA being permanently axed. The outcome rests squarely on their shoulders, as well as the shoulders of all those who chose to riot in years past. For those people, there is no one to blame but the reflection in the mirror.

I think his entire post was facetious. The point is, anyone who was there is culpable.

Well, if they're going to go down this road it will be interesting to see if this actually puts a dent in the ISU drinking culture, especially in the spring. My guess, it won't do all that much but will probably do just enough to let Leath and Co. count this as a big PR win, which is frustrating.

seem like the same routine though. Veishea was canceled what, about 5-10 years ago? Look I loved Veishea, I just could see where Leath is coming from.

I wish they would cancel the Ames PD.

Why? From every observable instance, the Ames PD showed remarkable restraint that evening and kept the riot from escalating. The police are not to blame. Leath and the administration are not to blame. The blame falls squarely on the a-holes that flipped over cars and knocked down street poles, along with every single enabler standing by watching in those crowds.

Actions have consequences, kids.

**** Leath and **** the ******** task force. They are a bunch of ******* cowards.

Seconded. This task force did nothing to truly evaluate the root causes of the problem and whether past recommendations were even being followed anymore. A few idiots causing a relatively small amount of damage every few years is nothing compared to the value VEISHEA brought to ISU and the city of Ames every single year, not to mention the opportunity it brought for alumni to reunite.

Mark my words, with nothing really being done to address the root issues, and campustown getting more and more densely populated (see the two tall buildings going up now, and id imagine more will come) if the root issues arent addressed i'd guess we'll see similar issues in a future spring. It may not be next year, or the year after (its not like we had veishea riots every year either) but something will happen eventually because nobody has addressed the real causes.
