The only reason I can think of as to why this show is still on the air is because of the trouble they had filling the spot in the first place. If you were a listener back then, the open auditions were mostly horrible.

Is bad local radio better/worse than plugging in national radio? In my opinion, yes. But the suits must not think so.

According to them, their ratings are better then what Cotman ever had, better then Miller and Deace, and better then when Tim Fischer was on the show. If true, they are doing something right.

The whole point of a local show is to actually talk about local sports sometimes. I get that they want to go off topic to make it fun, but I rarely hear them on topic.

I think Ross Peterson is a really talented radio-guy, but I'm not sure this show is going to make him everything he can be.

I'm with you on this. I think Ross has a true passion for radio that you rarely see from the other local personalities. He is a great fit for the morning slot and I can only imagine he is a great host for Sound-off after Iowa games. I think if you paired him with Tim Fisher instead of Travis that show would be more tolerable.

Travis on the other hand is bringing that show down. He continues to be in radio because he can't get back into television (which he openly admits is his preference to radio), or his personal business endeavors fail. He subconsciously airs way too much personal information on the air: such as the successes/failures of his children - not to mention the location of their whereabouts in an age where people already feel like they are being monitored by big brother. The lack of sex in his life is also blatantly apparent the way he has to constantly bring up attractive women, boobs, Mr. Skin, etc. DAILY. Just take your wife out to dinner already.

You can onyl predict the upcoming season for ISU and Iowa so many times, and they have done it MANY times over the past few months. Its summer, local DM radio is tough during the summer. That being said, during the football and basketball season, they have, and will talk a ton more Iowa and ISU. Yes they will still go off topic more than they probably need to, but that is what they have always (self admittedly) done.

Exactly, they have no regular guests, no inside connections; plus you have two tavernhoks that are more interested in Grandview than any other school which really plays well to actual Hoks and Cyclone fans which are becoming a significant majority of fans in the DSM area.

I use to ride the bus to school with him years ago. He was such a putz. His nickname was Slobberboy because he would purposely drool on himself to amuse the bully kids at the back of the bus so they wouldn't pick on him.

I try not to judge people by their behavior in 8th grade but thanks for the info.

My commute is only 15ish minutes but I always tune in to see whats going on and I always flip the station. They just talk about nothing that interests me. The show is very unprofessional and lacks any meaningful content. In fairness, they do often admit they are a trashy show.
Sounds like Todd and Tyler with Travis Justice that was Omaha the past few years.

I like Ross, but Travis Justice just kills the show. I understand that there are only so many minutes that can be spent rehashing the local sports scene, but they constantly veer so far off topic that you can barely call what they do sports radio. I'd rather listen to Ross paired with someone who would actually engage him when he tries to talk about a sports related topic instead of immediately trying to somehow steer the conversation towards women or pop culture. I don't know if I'd call it trashy, but it does make me change the station most of the time.

I liken their entire show to the "Hey Tana" segment of the Murph and Andy show. That's not a compliment.

Now just imagine a 4 hour show of Matt Perrault, with the last 2 hours adding Travis Justice. That was real show from 2-6 in Omaha a few years back. Brutal.

Do they ever have anyone from ISU or other local sports scene on? My commute is 15 mins or so - and I never hear anything of any value. Honestly - they are the reason I have XM in my car. Miller and Brinson on the drive home aren't too bad. At the very least they have local sports talk and local interviews. Monday evening QBs, they get a coach every now and then. I'm not a fan of any of the nearby NFL teams - but still enjoy those interviews. Kaplan out of Chicago. They will have something of value on.

You never get any of that on the morning show, save the Thursday morning beer segment. But generally they're so obnoxious (not the guest, mostly Justice), it's unlistenable as well.

Ross: I think that ISU and Iowa will have seasons that will surprise people.
Travis: I saw some gigantic boobs at the mall on Tuesday.
Ross: Umm... cool... but if you look at the two teams schedules its not unrealistic to think that both tea

In unrelated news, I see Perrault was filed from his last gig and is more or less a radio ad saleman in Maine.

They are awful. So many awkward pauses and content that is just odd at times. Tim creeps me out and he thinks he is hilarious. Glad I'm not the only one

I do like the dunkin donuts as I've won once!

I hate the Omaha commercials crap...you are a Des Moines show speaking to Des Moines listeners. no problem with Travis being in Omaha, but to promote anything in Omaha is only hurting the economy in Des Moines.

I listen every day, and for the most part enjoy them. I'm hoping they'll get back to more sports talk after we've had some actual games this week.

I think Murph and Andy have a perfect balance of off topic and sports takes. They know when to be serious and when to have some fun.

In Perrault's defense, he wasn't nearly as bad in Omaha as he was in DSM. Perrault during Creighton bball season was actually pretty good, in my opinion. But, that may be because we were both big Creighton fans, and hated Nebraska.

As for Travis, he was tolerable on Todd n Tyler because he was usually only on air for 30-45 minutes. The "boobs talk" surprises me because on Todd n Tyler he was the one being made fun of for being a bit of prude.
