You're in Pollard's position. What are your thoughts? What are you thinking? If I am the AD, knowing the contract of the current coach is extensive, it doesn't mean this game isn't an earmark for what the future holds. There is a LOT riding on keeping fans interested in Iowa State FB. A LOT. You cannot build that new south endzone knowing that a certain amount of fans are going to start becoming not interested on a regular basis. I would look at this season as two wins maximum based on what I saw today. I wouldn't do anything in terms of getting rid of Rhoads at the end of the season even if we went 0-12. But next year would be it. The team must win at least 7 games with what we have and anything less is it. And I realize that means a huge buyout but a string of crappy seasons just can't fly in this day and age and to keep donors and the fan base GROWING, a change would have to be made I think. Just curious what others would do if you're the AD.

I'd shut down message boards and not reply to everybody's email.

I wouldn't fire anyone until the end of the season. Just see where this ends up. If we can somehow pull 4 or 5 wins out of this shipwreck then it's progress from last season, and it would make the decision a bit more difficult. If it's anywhere from 0-2 wins I cant see CPR staying any longer.

Since I know that I don't have the money available to do anything, I probably make some calls or put feelers out to gauge the pulse of bigger donors and see if that money is potentially available.

I also look at my pledge to raise ticket prices for next year and tremble at the drop in ticket sales that is coming without some kind of action on my part.

If I was JP, I'd probably call the NDSU AD for some advice. "Look dude, we just paid you $350k to come down here and beat our ***. I'm not so good at hiring football coaches. Give me some help here."

Well - the guy who built that program is currently at Wyoming. I'm not really sure any longer - but I think we're still a better destination than them....

So when is the last time ISU hired a head coach for football, that was a head coach at the collegiate level prior coming to ISU?

Maybe Pollard should try that and see what happens..

Walden. A lot of people wanted a former head coach when Rhoads was hired. Thing is a lot of the top names that come to mind now are coordinators.

Well, things are so bad that the Iowa boards don't care enough to make fun of us. In most years they fear us.... not this year. Can we demote CPR to defensive coordinator and make Mangino our HC?

His most important lines of thinking is if I fire Rhoads and Mangino doesn't win more than 2 games is the fanbase happy with me if I don't land an upgrade in the offeseason and ahve to bring Mangino back after only 0-2 wins? If I pay to fire Rhoads can I afford to hire a Montgomery or Herman after the year?

And the next things he has to consider are do 4 wins keep Rhoads in his job after this year and the fanbase satisfied? If Mangino takes over and wins 4-5 games is he the best guy for the job and should the coaching search end?

Those are the thoughts he has to weigh up along with the financial implications.

HE also has to realized he screwed up scheduling good 1AA teams because they would draw good crowds. 3,000 empty seats against Western Illinios and a blowout win is certainly better than a packed house and a loss to UNI even if you make 50 grand less from ticket sales.

Can I require fans to buy football season tickets with any basketball ticket purchase?

Here is the a list of records of teams after they had a winless season since 2000. Im using Wikipedia so there are probably some teams left out. I'm excluding Georgia State and Miami(OH)'s 2013 seasons since we dont know the end result yet.
2000 Duke 0-11 2001 Duke 0-11
2001 Duke 0- 11 2002 Duke 2-10
2001 Houston 0-11 2002 Houston 5-7
2003 SMU 0-12 2004 SMU 3-8
2004 UCF 0-11 2005 UCF 8-5
2005 New Mexico St 0-12 2006 New Mexico State 4-8
2006 Duke 0-12 2007 Duke 1-11
2008 Washington 0-12 2009 Washington 5-7
2009 Eastern Michigan 0-12 2010 EMU 2-10
2009 Western Kentucky 0-12 2010 WKU 2-10
2012 Southern Miss 0-12 2013 Southern Miss 1-11

Looks like only 1 team has made a bowl recently(like I said up top there may be some exclusions, my source is Wikipedia), and that team played in a mid major conference. Setting that as a goal for a power conference team is pretty unrealistic considering unlike UCF( and even Houston and Washington who had 5 wins), we still have to play every team but 1 from this years schedule next season.

If I'm JP i seriously evaluate this program at the end of September. If no improvement is made, I fire Rhoads and let Mangino be the intern. We see how he does the rest of the year and if it is apparent he is not the man for the job, time to hire someone outside the program.
