Friday OT: Favorite NES 8-bit Games

Haha, I remember this one and loved it. Looking back, the game was quite a grind, and some of the key items were really hidden in random spots. Basically needed a game guide or help of a friend to find a lot of them. Old school Nintendo games were hard.

Dragon Warrior 2 was a little better but 3 and 4 still hold up today very well. They were all released on the us Nes but so rare I never even saw any if them or played them until decades later on emulators. I'm guessing 3 and 4 go for a tin of cash on eBay.

Tecmo Bowl was hands down the best football game on the NES. Another one I used to play was John Elway's Quarterback. That one was pretty fun as well.

You've apparently never played 10 Yard Fight. May have been one of the first 5 NES games.

On the other end of the spectrum, it seems like almost every NES game based on a movie was terrible. **** Tracy, Bill and Ted, The Rocketeer, Terminator, Indiana Jones, and especially--especially--Total Recall.

Try the Goonies 2. It was actually a pretty good game.

Yeah, if you ever watched the anime it was pretty racy for it's time. Golgo 13 got laid. A lot.

Kids nowadays have it easy with the ability to save games, cheats, and just generally easier games. The old games were all about memorization of patterns, mastering jumps, twitch reflexes, and no save features. If a game had a save feature, it was some overly complicated password that you always had to write down. These games were insanely hard, but I think our generation were gluttons for punishment. Today's youth would have no patience failing over and over again until they could master some of these games.

I remember a game (I think for PS1). It was a football game, but not Madden. You could injure the players and a cart would come out to pick them up and you could end their career and such. Anyway, you couldn't save on it. Weird for a football game on that generation of a console. I remember spending whole weekends trying to finish a whole season without having to turn it off. It was the worse when I'd spend all that time and lose in the playoffs.

It's only Monday, but I'm already sick of the **** measuring contest with the EIU fans. I figure I'd resurrect this thread with a few games I played this past weekend that we missed from the list.

First off: Karnov. Data East's unofficial mascot of the 8-bit era. This game had some surprisingly deep gameplay for being an early NES game and a TON of special items to help.

This next one, I have no idea how I missed it. I played this game until my fingers bled. I would have never thought that a beach volleyball game would be this entertaining, but me and my brother played this one for hours and hours.

The over-the-top spikes just made it worth it. I finished this one, but really required flawless play on the final 2 matches. Another Cold War era game where the championship team were the Soviets. Because that makes sense, them being a beach volleyball powerhouse and all. You won't regret playing this one!

Odd fact: Billy and Jimmy from Double Dragon were one of the volleyball teams!

Next up: Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers. This was a great game in the same vein as Ducktales. I played it some this weekend. Amazing how good the Disney games used to be.

Another one I played way too much: Mickey Mousecapade. Pretty popular game in its day and frustrating when Minnie could not make her ******* jumps!

Last two classics I'll mention here: RC Pro Am and Pro-Wrestling. I remember always using the wrestler that looked like the Creature from the Black Lagoon so that it could bite the opponent. Fun times.

Have to agree with you. Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II were amazing games with cutscenes that were way ahead of their time. I was never a fan of the 3rd game in the series.

The Amazon and Star Man were my two favorites in that game. I was never any good at that game (or any wrestling games for that matter), but that is not a big deal if you play against another human opponent. The CPU is hard to beat!

A few shooters next: Abadox, 1943: The Battle of Midway, and Skyshark. Abadox was very similar to Gradius and Skyshark was a more frantic version of 1943.

Two last ones for today: Pool of Radiance and Renegade. Both great games from what I recall, spent a lot of time on Renegade back in the day!
