Many great benefits about my job, but the fact that no one looks over your shoulder our is keeping stern track of how many hours you put in is great. I love the fact that if I have one of my kids' event to get to, or even if I'm just not feeling like being at work I can take off early. As long as work is getting done and you try to be in the office when you can, no one is breathing down your neck. I honestly don't think I could work a job with a set schedule any more...

1. Hourly pay, work as much or as little as I want.
2. Don't have to actually be an employee of my clients so I don't have to deal with all the HR crap they have to do (diversity trainings, etc.)
3. My bill rate.

Double match on my 403(b) up to 10%. (I put in 5% and the University matches 10%) 24 days of vacation per year and they can be rolled over, which is great. Lot of freedom shooting and writing my own stories. And I get to shoot and write stories and show off all the great things happening at the best University in all the land. Lately I even started a project where once a week I just post about a minute long video on some place on campus that either looks really cool or has a lot of nice natural sound. Which is really just me having fun.

I thought we had a cappuccino machine at work. It turns out I was putting foaming soap in my coffee. My job has no perks now.

There are a lot of you that chose your own hours. Are most of you in finance/banking/insurance?

all you can eat/drink snacks pop tea ect......Catered in lunch once a week on average. leave whenever you want and come in whenever as long as you are getting stuff done. 6% match.

Downside. Out of 4 people in my dept. I am the only one that actually does anything. In fact 2 of the others I havent even seen in a month or so.

In no particular order:

1. Bonuses
2. Free all I can eat/drink snacks and pop everyday
3. A cafeteria that has it's own chef's and it's really cheap for all you can eat (I have a 1/2 rack of ribs everyday!)
4. I get treated like a professional - meaning if I need to work from home I can, if I need to leave early or come in late I can as long as my work is getting done.
4. We usually are given some free PTO days after a really busy stretch, so i can take PTO but it doesn't come out of my earned PTO balance.
5. Lots of cool people I get to work with
6. We have a flag football league every fall
7. I don't get in trouble for being on CF while at work
8. A game room where I can take a break to play pool

I'll probably think of more but I need to go refill my Dr. Pepper now.

I thought in an AG thread that you told people you were a farmer and how you had to leave for a while to go tend to cattle?

Sounds like those other people have it figured out. They get all the perks and you do all the work.

Choose my own hours (I'm an early morning fan)
Can work from home 2-3 days a week
Nice free covered parking
New building we're moving into is awesome but we'll be sitting on top of each other
5.2 weeks of PTO each year
Free wi-fi on campus
Stock discount
Pension
401k match

IT staff is very knowledgeable if you can find the right person. Not a lot of people that know the entire process but a lot of people that know a lot about little pieces of the technology.

Maybe the 2 people in his department that don't do anything are his worthless siblings.
I suppose the snacks could be from his mom/wife.
Catered in lunch? AKA slaughter and roast a hog.

I get to work outside 95% of the time. Though after grad school I'll probably transition into more of an administrative role, with about 80% inside/desk and 20% outside with clients.

Pros:
Season pass winter and summer for the resort
Pro Deals on gear, clothes, accessories
Live in a wonderfully beautiful place in the Rockies

Cons:
Only get a holiday off if it happens to fall on one of my regular days off. But I live far from family and most all of my friends are also transplants in similar situations, so we do big Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations potluck style.
Some days are really, really, really insanely cold

Pro-Con:
Approx 6 weeks unpaid time off in the spring and fall. It's nice to be able to travel and/or take professional development courses & certifications, but 6 weeks without a paycheck can be tough. Hence, another reason for grad school and moving to a stable, year-round administrative role.

Lol, I have 2 Jobs. I work on average 90 hour weeks. Farms dont pay themselves off.

This is a concept that is hard to grasp for people outside of farming. If they did pay themselves off, everyone would be buying them. My dad did buy a few farms in the late 80s that pretty much had mortgage payments = cash rent at the time, that's about as close as it gets.

The income taxes you have to pay to make your principal payments suck about as much as the payments themselves. No way to pay off a farm before paying off Uncle.
