How long did it take to go though the signature line?

I brought my wife, 3 sons and daughter 2 hours.
We were half way in the line, nothing moved. We left at 7:45.
3 boys were very disappointed, but they thought the rest was fun.

Does any one know if we can get any of the signature cards somewhere?

Don't know if I would do this again with the whole family again.

They said on the radio that the players stayed for three and a half hours. I just had something I wanted Hoiberg to sign, and husband and I were content to sit a while and eat popcorn and listen to the football game. Wound up abandoning ship to take the kids to dinner. It was actually kind of fun waiting and listening to the game with other fans.

It was EXACTLY what I thought it would be. I enjoyed it but I basically went because it was an opportunity to visit my daughter. A 2 hour drive each way is my absolute limit. I'll go next year but if my daughter wasn't in school there I probably wouldn't.

You have a daughter at ISU you say?

It was about what I was expecting. It did seem kind of sloppy. The dunk contest was just flat out confusing. Im not sure how you manage to screw that up, but they did. Is it that hard to give them a 60 second clock to complete a dunk?

Hopefully if they do it next year they don't do it during an away game. It would be cool to have the band there, and in some ways they were competing against themselves. I know I had zero interest in watching the game on the jumbotron. I just like basketball better so I didn't mind listening to the football game on the radio on my way home. However, if it was a big game because the football team was doing well I would have probably skipped the event all together.

Yeah, the dunk contest was lame.
Give them a shot clock like real contests so they get more than just 1 chance. And no offense to the judges they had, but next time maybe get some local celebrities to be judges.

It would be cool to have former players as judges. Think of the ovation Melvin would have received if they trotted him out there to judge.

Am I the only one who thought the whole thing was kind of boring and not well put together? I expected something much different based on videos I've seen from other schools.

I actually thought it was better than it could have been. It came together kind of quick and I thought it could have been really bad. The dunk contest was not the best thing, but I got the feeling that Hoiberg was paranoid about it and had the players holding back a bit. I don't know that a scrimmage would have made it any better or not.

Overall, I thought it was a good time. Well worth the trip up to Ames. It was pretty cool to hear that the players spent 3 hours signing autographs.

I just felt it was overall very awkward. From the scissors, rock, paper (or however Scott Siepker kept butchering it) contest, to the girls just kind of sitting there, to the dunk contest. I figured the band would be there and maybe they'd have a pre-filmed sketch like KU did with Old School and The Hangover. Just had a different idea of what it would be, but maybe it'll get better.

I like the idea of former players as judges, and think that a scrimmage with the guys and the girls would be fun. A 10 minute game or something just to have fun, have the girls school the guys a bit. Something to liven it up. I agree Hoiberg was paranoid about it so maybe he vetoed anything like that.

Hoiberg was clearly paranoid about the dunking contest, which was really just doing his job. No way he was letting KJ go over Hogue and he didn't look too enthused about letting him go over the shorter guy who finally did it (and looked like he got a knee to the head).

What they did was fine. Would we be happier if they did a scrimmage and Georges got hurt? I would vote for CW for emcee next year and I wasn't a fan of the spotlights. They were blinding behind the east basket anyway, had spots before my eyes for the first part of the 3-pt contest.

The autographs didn't even start until after 7:30 so that's why nobody moved. I didn't even bother getting in line until the 4th quarter of the football game and still was in line for the rest of the football game.

It definitely sounded like they did it this year just to see if people would show up. They did, so next year they will expand it out to get the place filled.

And if Curtis Stinson is still playing for the Energy next year, have him be a judge.

I think you're onto something...Why not bring back a few players to be a part of it? Stinson would be a good choice but maybe you shoot high and try and get back a fizer, tinsley, hornecek, etc...

I mean, it was a pretty big event to plan with just about a month's notice. Having more time next year to plan and having a better idea of how many will show, I think it will be much better. Maybe for a cost they could do the option where you come early and "have dinner" with the players in a large setting?

I'd also like to see a short scrimmage where you mix up the men's and women's teams.

Lastly, come on guys, cheer for the women's squad. I understand that most are there for the men's team, but you're already there, what's so hard about cheering for the ladies? And the fact that Bill Fennely, possibly ISU's greatest ambassador, one of women's basketball's best coaches and been with us for 20 years, got as much of an applause as Custer, a freshman who hasn't played a second for us yet, is embarrassing. Fred shouldn't have to go out there and make everyone give him Bill a standing ovation. That should just be done.

Agree about Fennely, the guy's done just an unbelievable job, but it was pretty damn cool of Fred to recognize that and get the crowd to properly applause him.
