Hindsight is 20/20 Cychedelia. I don't think anyone truly thought that we would be this good this fast. He had 0 coaching experience coming in. Zero, zip, nada. If you said that he would take us to 3 straight NCAA tourneys and a sweet 16 within 4 years, you would've been laughed at. No one could have known.

I don't see this as people being morons because they were wrong. Yea, it seems silly now, but it was a gamble of a hire. It paid off amazingly but it was a huge gamble.

Point is nobody really knows **** so when we get a new coach or commit don't be a dumb *** and act like you know it's a terrible move or anything like that.

Nice of you guys to rehash the day of the hiring and all but let's cut to the chase. Now in year 5 do you think it was the right hire? I mean, what if Gillespie would have been the guy instead. I have a buddy who was sure that was the best choice.

It may have been a gamble, but this thread shows that sometimes as fans, we jump to conclusions and often times it appears we are using this:

It'll make me think twice before just assuming the worst immediately.

I didn't want Gillespie, although it intrigued me as "maybe worth the risk." Something seemed like a bad fit or a wrong direction.

I did, however, want to try Kruger. Many others probably agreed at the time — and his name is Chris Williams.

The Hoiberg hire, I did not see coming. Not sure how I reacted on any CF threads that day, but within about 24 hours, I liked the idea. Figured it'd take a couple seasons to build up to tournament level, but I assumed it'd at least be fun to watch in the process ... having a 3-season tourney stretch including Sweet 16, followed by today's preseason hype, I might have guessed would require 8 years.

Pollard may be batting .250 on his major sport hires, but he's slugging 1.000.

Swing for the fences, Jamie.

I can honestly say I was 100% excited about the Hoiberg hire, but I'm a sucker for "splash" hires. I was really underwhelmed by the Rhoads hire, and while Harbaugh was my first choice, I was pretty jacked about the Chiz hire.

What ever happened to Clones85'? It seems like when rebeccacy got the axe that guy must have had no more purpose to posting to CF.

It's fun to look back so we can see who the morons are, or the ones that think they know everything about everything. Glad to see not everyone was against the hire, as you will never know how a coach will work out.

Says the guy who has basically been wrong the vast majority of the time about the football team this year.
