Fun Fact Regarding the 2 Wins

With Iowa's win today our 2 wins are both over teams that will finish the season with 6 or more wins. In 2000, when ISU went 8-3 in the regular season, they only beat 2 teams with 6 or more wins (UNLV finished the season 7-5 and Ohio finished 7-4)

Not much of a consolation for the season, I just thought it was interesting.

Edit: updated to corrected regular season results as pointed out by jdoggivjc.

It is interesting how Rhoads has faced significantly tough schedules. That doesn't mean he can have losing seasons forever, but I do think things would be a lot different if he coached in the old Big 12 north. Unfortunately, now is an awful time to try to build a program in the Big 12.

So you're saying that basically our best season ever was more pathetic than this? Like.

Well in 2000 we were blown out in the 3 games against ranked opponents (Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Kansas St.) so yeah, but at least that team could beat the teams that were below .500. If we could do that this season then at least we would have wins against Kansas,Texas Tech, and possibly Oklahoma St.

That's a great stat. But everyone would feel a little better had we beaten NDSU and Kansas. (And UNI last year)

Ohio (7-4)
UNLV (8-5)

And then Pittsburgh (7-5)

Oops, I stand corrected. I was only including the regular season though.

It is more indicative on how weak the Big 12 schedule was... Baylor, OSU, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas all finished below .500.

Spoken like a true Rhoads apologist.

Also Iowa will have more than six wins but they are a under achieving garbage football team playing in a garbage conference.

Here's the thing, though - in 2000 ISU went 6-0 against FCS/I-AA teams (we didn't play any that year) and teams below .500 - teams that at least a mediocre team will beat. This year, if we remain true to form against Taco Tech and OSU finishes winless (a reasonable assumption, considering they finish their schedule at Baylor and at OU), ISU will finish 0-4 against FCS teams and teams below .500. Beat those 4 teams (NDSU, OSU, KU, TT) and we finish minimum 6-6. In other words, saying that our schedule is just "too tough" is nothing but an excuse - bowling is possible if we beat the teams we should beat.

In other words, the 2000 team took care of business against the teams it should beat. This team didn't even come close to taking care of business against those teams.

Who cares. 2-7 is STILL 2-7. Enough said.

This.

Fun fact #2: We had a better conference record in our winless 1994 season than we currently have.

And losses to Toledo and Iowa

I have made it very clear over the last couple weeks I think it is time to move on from Rhoads. I have also made it very clear I think he has faced an uphill battle that makes his tenure unique from that of his predecessors.

This.

Except the 9 game conference schedule guarantees 6 more total losses for conference teams, thereby making their records worse than when we just played 8 conference games. In the old 12 team Big 12, OSU and Texas Tech would likely be .500 or better this year.
