Part of the reason our shooting % was so poor was the bad shot selection. We took a bunch of long-range 2's which is very unlike a Hoiberg team. Also, it took a ridiculously good shooting night (58%) to beat a mediocre Alabama team the night before.

I have actually noticed this quite a bit this year. The last 2 years, it was extremely rare to see shots from those locations unless we were fighting the shot clock and had to get a shot off. This year, there have been a LOT of shots from 1-2 feet inside the 3 point line. I don't understand it, considering how much Hoiberg has preached about that shot being the lowest payoff shot.

I didn't get to watch the game. But from this quote, I assume that Bryce and probably others were playing Tinsley-ball. I know many of you don't remember from his days as a Clone that when the game got tough, Tinsley would forget his role and start playing every position, never passing off and shooting everything.

The moral of the story is that when you play Hoiball, you win. When you play Tinsley-ball, you don't.

That said, Fred needs to sit their butts down if they don't play with and for each other. And I don't care who it is. There's enough depth on the bench. No one is indispensable.

Ah the guy who didn't watch the game but is going to tell us allllll about it. Why didn't you just go all in and call them "thugs"?

Tinsley-ball doesn't win, EL OH EL

I'd be in favor of instituting a temporary ban hammer policy on people who associate Tinsley with losing basketball. The guy ran our team for two seasons and barely lost a game. He made the opposition look foolish most of the time. I do not understand the desire some have to bad mouth him at all.

We are picked by most outlets to finish 3rd in the Big 12. Maryland is picked to finish 8th or 9th in the Big 10.

Their best players look like highly touted and talented freshman, I'd consider that some significant upside. They'll be an interesting team to follow. There won't be lots of teams with more size and athleticism.

I've seen this posted several times now, but the shot chart doesn't really bear it out. Unless (a) I'm reading it wrong, or (b) you think a half dozen or so shots between the arc and the paint is too many.

Dejean-Jones played pretty selfishly, add in the flagrant which was just a stupid frustration foul and you've got a kid that needs to act like a Senior and be a leader. I think he will be fine. Kane had his problems early on in his tenure, so I can see Dejean-Jones being similar. If he continues to do more of that however, I would not put it past Hoiberg to show him the bench.

It wasn't just Dejean-Jones last night. The last 5 minutes of that game, looked like a team that didn't know who its true 'go to guy' was at this point in the season. Everyone was making their best effort to prove that could slash the lane and score in the land of the giants, but when it comes down to it, these guys aren't Ejim, they aren't Kane. They need to play together and make the extra pass, keep their composure. Was a frenzy at the end of that game. Leadership is very obviously lacking right now.

Not hitting 3s was key last night. It allowed them to pack it in under the basket. As someone else said, some days the shots just won't fall, but more commonly, people are just casting up a 3 rather than running the offense. There is a world of difference between catching the ball and shooting in rhythm vs just standing there and throwing up a 3 with a defender on you. We had a 3 on 2 break with a guy wide open in the corner and we didn't get him the ball. If our guys learn from it, it's a good loss and reality check.

My observations from last night were that we continued to make those extra passes for the first couple of minutes. We couldn't make a damn shot though. Once the shooting went cold, I think they each tried to take it upon themselves to break the slump.

Agree with this. Sure, maybe sometimes Bryce could have passed, or Georges. But I also felt each one was trying to step up and be the guy to make a play for his struggling team. Hard to separate these two things sometimes. Monte tried to force a few later due to this same mentality I think. Didn't everyone else at the game feel like there must be somebody who could make a play and give us a spark, but it just didn't happen? Edozie's contriubution was the most encouraging of anyone, imo.
