This post went south quickly when you said Uthoff is the best player BDJ will guard all year. Are you kidding? We haven't even got to the conferences games yet where we will face Texas and Kansas but are you forgetting about RJ Hunter already? Uthoff isn't anywhere near Hunter and the Texas/Kansas guys.

Michael Qualls may be the best player BDJ guards this year (he didn't guard Hunter much that game), and BDJ just destroyed him.

It's never this easy though. This isn't a bunch of 1-on-1 games, like Monte vs Clemmons and Niang vs Woody.

On any given day, I would agree that I would take 4 of our guys over their corresponding starters, but match ups play a role.

You also have to consider how players shoot, rebounding intensity, defensive intensity, etc. Those factors are also heavily influenced by home/away court and just vary from night to night.

Kane for instance scored 5 points last year. Let me repeat that. KANE SCORED ONLY FIVE points last year, which sounds almost unbelievable, but it happened. (haha 2 of those were off of Woody's *ss on the inbounds play). He was playing the point against Gessel who scored 11, but couldn't score when it counted.

Also, as an aside, our short bench, outscored their derpth 19 vs 18.

I agree with that. I was more saying we have more talent and a better coach...it's about time we go on the road and win these games

I go back and forth on this game, and I'm going to wait until after the Tuesday game to make a prediction.

But here's what I think:

+ Monte and Naz are much MUCH better than Gessell and Clemmons.
- we can struggle rebounding and they are a good rebounding team
+ they struggle offensively and we have a ton of fire power
- We don't have McKay yet
+ Hogueybear is due for a big game
- White always has a big game against us
+ they don't have anyone who can guard BDJ
- it's a road game
+ Niang won't let us lose to Iowa

good point. TX played really poor in 1H, but poured it on the 2nd. We need to score >~70s, which means we need to hit our Treys.

Thanks, I've never received a compliment about basketball before.... Should be a fun game, not sure if I want to watch it with my brother in law who is a Hawk fan or with my kids who cheer for whoever I'm cheering for...

I've had a bad feeling about this game for awhile. Part of it stems from not having McKay, part of it stems from what happened a couple years ago, but I feel like most of it is just me preparing myself for a possible disappointment.

Ah, **** it. Clones 85-78.

I agree with posters who say that the rebounding disparity will be a concern. I think that the more aggressive Morris D results in just enough steals and fast break buckets to partially make up for the rebounding deficit. Let's just hope that ISU doesn't get loose with the ball and give them too many unforced turnovers. There probably won't be a margin for many of those.

As Boxster (I think) mentioned the other day, if Mike Nurse was playing Friday he wouldn't comb his hair.

That is code for "we don't have the talent to win straight up... so we have to make the game as ugly as possible to have any chance".

This guy approves of this message.

I am nervous, with this being the first road game of the season, how the team will handle adversity again. We saw it against Maryland, which was more of a home game than a road game. Hopefully they got that out of their system.

If we limit our turnovers and shoot an average percentage, I think we win. But I'm concerned, especially with it being a road game against a team that plays defense, that we might rack up the turnovers, get in foul trouble, and not be able to overcome it. I still think we win though.

I have a feeling of dread about this one I can't shake the performance of the team 2 years ago out of my head.

I will admit that that performance is all I can think about. The Maryland game as well. I tend to vividly remember bad things.

Iowa likes putting the ball in the basket about as much as Gingers like being in the sun.

Can we talk about this after Tuesday night?

Why? Because you think what we discuss and predict will have any bearing on how the team prepares for their opponents? Or you believe in karma? Or...?

I'll throw in a UMKC prediction too:

ISU: A lot
UMKC: Not a lot

(All said in good fun of course) <3
