I think the energy McKay brings to the game will be his biggest impact on the game. It has to be infectious. His speed baseline to baseline reminds me a Lafester. Bigs in the Big 12 are going to hate trying to run the floor with him.

His free throws will get better, but even if that is a weakness I don't think it is a big deal. With our depth and versatility, Fred can make sure we have the right players on the court at the right time.

Jameel will be just fine. He was shooting them to strong and back rimmed a bunch. He'll come around and hit his share. He won't be a Fred or Jake but he will hit at a decent enough percentage to not be a detriment.

That's not what his Indian Hills stats suggest.

The fact that Hoiberg says he hits them in practice is good enough for me. But at the same time I don't think it is a big deal if he is a poor free throw shooter, if other teams want to foul him go ahead, they are just going to get their bigs in foul trouble and play right into our mismatch philosophy then.

Im thinking by the end of the year he will be playing 25-30min because we will need his size in the big 12 more. if he gets those kinds of minutes he will average close to 10 rbds a game

Also a side note I know drake is not a great team but they were in the game last night against whichita state all game

McKay hasn't played anyone, but I think he'll be dependable. Drake and MVSU are like high school teams.

That is why I took 80 percent of the production thus far. Even if you take 50 percent of it, the numbers are still pretty solid.

I'm impressed so far. I haven't seen many guys that big that are that quick.

Agree. Him sprinting down the floor is awesome. 1.) he's fast for 6'-9". 2.) when the defense realizes he's got a 1/2 step on them, they panic, and then <insert Hoiberg-ism here>.

I think the level of competition has been really bad for McKay, but you also have to consider that he's still getting used to playing at this level and with our team. So maybe the dropoff you might expect from better competition will be negated because McKay should become more and more comfortable. Plus he'll get in better game shape.

McKay's value is in his ability to help on defense in the paint and run the middle of the floor on breaks. There are a lot of good players on this team, but there is no one with his ability to get up and block shots that look unblockable, except maybe BDJ. That is a great value, because after a couple guys get their shots that normally get through blocked, they start thinking about it and don't take shots or alter them because of the previous block.

Last night was kind of a mess with several bigs trying to fill the lane at once causing confusion on where to throw the pass. Everyone wanted to get that big dunk I guess.

If his FT shooting does not improve, than he may be sitting on the bench at the end of games.

Most of those came when it was a mix of edozie/nader/McKay on the floor. They probably don't run together that often (or maybe they do), but it appeared there was some confusion on who would be going for the break.

I agree. Of those three, only Nader would naturally spot up for a three from the wing, and would normally be more likely to fill the lane.

I am not sure there is a big 12 center that will stay with him running the floor, seems very fast. With our passing ability, he will get a lot of points in the fast breaks. He looks real skinny on TV, concerned about getting pushed around against some of the Big 12 fives.

He needs to show other teams that he can make the free throws, or he will play less than 15 minutes a game.

He is really skinny, he really needs to hit the weight room.

I think he will be good but niang, bdj and MM are more important

I think you are overestimating the importance of FT% juuuuust a tad bit. Might he be subbed out on offense late in the game? Sure. For argument sake, lets say he shoots 50% from the line and he gets fouled every single time down the court. That still equates to 1.0 points per possession which isn't completely horrible for a team offense.

I'm going with about 8 ppg. He's capable of more, but there's too many natural scorers on this team.

his impact is rebounding, help defense, transiton O - mostly by flattening the floor.

The guy has a 7'4" wingspan. He's not going to get bulky.

He is an energy guy. Someone that annoys everyone he plays against. He is going to grab offensive rebound and tire the other center. He will get his fair share of dunks, but his value offensively is applying pressure on the defense in the paint on breaks. I can see the extra pass ball reversals to Naz in the corner now. He's a great fit for the offense especially since he will likely play in short spurts because he goes so hard.

I had low expectations for him mostly because everyone was going so nuts. He looks better than I expected. Another great recruiting job by Hoiberg.
