Here nor there
Sucks to lose, but not a jarring loss by any means.

When the game is "clean" and fast, we are an elite team. Physical, tough teams almost always give us a hard time, and if we shoot that poorly, particularly from the FT line, we stand to lose. Nothing new.

I liked what we saw from McKay. If he keeps improving as he gets back up to speed, he may be enough to help us pull out these games.

People hate on "hero ball", but this is a game where we need BDJ (or anyone other than Georges) to take over. SC was not going to let us play Hoiball and Georges struggles in these types of games, so we need someone to step up like Kane could. I guess had we shot near 75% from the FT line, we could say that someone was Hogue or McKay.

Hard to hit 3's and FT's when you get worked physically.

Figured two losses non-con, so no biggie yet. If S.C. isn't a tourney team, I'll be surprised.

It will be interesting to see how people feel about 'Hoiball' if this team doesn't figure out how to win close games when a team defends them.

I agree with you, but sorry, that's been the secret of attracting talented transfers. I remember Kory Lucious, when asked about playing for Fred, saying that "it's cool, he lets you play your game, without being on your *** all the time."

I'm sure a lot of other recruits love it too. I'd take this over Bo Ryan any day, but, boy, some discipline would take this team so far.

We're 1-week away from playing @ #17 W VA; and like SC, they're physical and well-coached. We need to get some things corrected fast by Tues night vs Okie St

Love the hawk fan who came in here. Enjoy playing in the NIT. Maybe this year Iowa can win it and be the 69th best team.

When shots aren't falling, you MUST drive the ball to the hoop and force the action and get to the foul line. Of course, we weren't hitting FT's either, so there's that problem too.

Fred has to figure out how to beat a physical team though.

I'm still blaming our poor shooting on how dark it was in that damn place. You couldn't see any higher than 10 rows up because it was so damn dark.
Our fans at the game cost us the game, if they were smart they all would have pulled out their smart phone flashlights and helped the team out.

Mckay should start over hogue imo
I love Hogue's hustle, but I would support this for a couple of reasons. One, his energy off the bench is a great tool to have in the toolbox when things aren't clicking early. Two, I'm kinda tired of how infrequently he seems to finish at the rim when there is any semblance of contact. More often than not, when he's bumped or fouled, it seems the ball is flying wildly off the backboard rather than finding its way through the net.

That is just idiotic and unacceptable. Please tell me that Fred sat him down for that crap.

Nothing makes me more upset than to see idiots celebrating when getting their a** kicked.

I wish Fred would discipline these guys more. Don't get me wrong, I think we play better with a slight edge to us, but when we cross the line it is embarrassing.

Do you want us to be the hoks? As long as it isn't directed at an opposing player then it's fine. If that is what gets Monte or any other playing going then what's the problem with it? Don't pretend like you know how players take themselves to the next level. You might not agree with or think it's right but that doesn't make it wrong and it really has no bearing on anything in the grand scheme.

2 reasons ISU lost:

1) 8 assists, 13 turnovers. Players forcing shots in transition and players forcing shots when guarded by 4 people. Hero ball.

2) Whenever this team has had any adversity this season, they pout and whine. A far cry from last season. This team misses Kane and Ejim as leaders really bad. The players that are suppose to be leaders are the ones I'm talking about doing this.

I was thinking that Hogue was on his way to getting T'd up couple of times.

I think Matt Thomas is going to turn into more of a 5-10 min type player from here on out. He just isn't improving like I thought he would.

You make a good point, free throws and 3's were all short tonight, even with all of our depth, legs were lacking

And he can't make free throws. Not sure if McKay is better though

Amen. Just hate the rationale: "hard to win when you aren't hitting your 3's" - then use your superior talent (which we had tonight) by taking it to the hole and make them guard you. But that takes work, and being "physical" right back...

In a game like tonight when nobody can hit a shot, Matt needs to be able to come in and knock down some 3's for us and get us going. That will be his role.

But if he can't do that, he won't see much time IMO.

Yea, he's been bad on offense aside from when he drives to the hoop. Seems timid to pull the trigger on a 3. Defense is typically decent.

Frankly it's just dang frustrating to lose a game like this. Getting outplayed is one thing, but shooting like we've never held a basketball before is just so annoyingly frustrating. I thought the first time was a fluke, but now it's twice in 12 games. I'm a little nervous.
