Taking 1 angle and going against a trapping press will take you to bad places.

Morris and Thomas need to stop with this stutter step nonsense when bringing the ball up the court with one man in front of them. They are trying to avoid all contact with misdirection and it makes the one man in front of them way too powerful/effective in slowing the ball down, which helps their press cause way more trouble than it should. Just go at them at an angle to get around and/or draw the blocking foul. Niang did this a few times towards the end of the second half and got the ball forward very effectively. No fanciness needed.

Unless you are secretly Fred Hoiberg, STFU with that stuff. This is just embarrassing.

Yeah! Knock it off guys! I know how to handle the press better than you and your coaches.

I thought we handled their "Press" pretty well. Unfortunately for those "toothless wonders," the "bum" happened to be "da bomb!"

Just checked.

Monte averages 0.9 turnovers a game.

He had 1 yesterday.

So, OP is correct. Monte did worse than average yesterday.

Also, he immediately stole the ball back after the turnover and passed it down court for an assisted basket.

My point isn't about Morris's turnovers or how good his handles are, but in how he is wasting time at the beginning of possessions when there is a press of any kind. Isn't one of our main strengths tempo? Needlessly slowing things down like that plays into the defender's hands.

Why push tempo when their press has success as soon as a team tries to push tempo? It may be our identity however, it is also about how a team can adapt.

It's amazing that we have so many D-1 coaches in our midst on here.

Being an Iowa State fan can be really, really hard. Don't make it harder by complaining about wins or talking about stuff that you know next to nothing about.

Going slower also prevents the ball from literally ending up in the defender's hands due to a turnover.

Is this a joke?

Trolls gonna troll. WVU turns their opponents over on 35% of possessions. For all you non-math majors, that's more than 1/3 of possessions. Best in D1.

If you want to ***** and moan about the tempo, that's fine. Whatever. We played well against their press compared to other teams who have faced WVU. We won the game. If you really need something to complain about and the only thing you can find is "our PG, who is literally the best ever when it comes to avoiding turnovers, is taking too long to beat the best press defense in the country" then go for it.

Love how the OP is giving advice to Monte on how to handle the ball. Man, if only we had a coach with some basketball experience...
