Glory days: Could you dunk? How old is too old to try again?

I do have a goal of having my future child(ren) witness me dunking. Hopefully old enough that they also remember to tell their kids how BA their Grandpa was lol. I remember watching my Dad dunk a volleyball when I was 5 and thought that was so cool. I used to be able to dunk anyway I wanted but years and pounds have stopped that.

I'm 6'3....pushing 6'4 with bball shoes. I've never been able to dunk as I had a Georges Niang like vertical. Now my vertical at age 29 rivals that of Adam Woodbury. It's embarrassing how high (or low) I can jump.

Do you find also as you get older you lose the ability to control where your fingers are headed?

After reading this thread I figured I would attempt to dunk 10 times in 2 minutes. Without any resistance whatsoever and a lunchroom full of elementary kids watching, I got 13 dunks in 2 minutes. Should have gotten more but the package of oreos ran out.

On the road...
I could dunk a softball in hs but nothing more. I am 5'10" in shoes and was 140lbs at the time, so I didn't have much weight holding me back...

I'm about 6'1" and could dunk with two hands until I was about 27, knees and back wouldn't allow it anymore. That was 18 years ago.

5'-10" back in the day. 5'-9" now. Could never dunk. Best I could do was grab the rim.

I haven't seen them around for a long time but they used to make these special shoes that forced you to run on your toes. They had flat appendages that were at the bottoms of the front of the shoe. I asked a guy using them what they were for and he said they helped your jumping. I would say this is about thirty years ago so I don't know if they are still made but the guys I saw using them were all basketball players wanting to jump higher.

I was 6'1 230 in high school and I could just barely dunk. It seemed like once I got it down I could constantly do it (mental)

17 years pass and I probably shot 10 baskets since college. My wife and I decide to shoot some hoops behind the local high school. At 35 I probably weighed about 10 lbs less and I was in a lot better shape than high school. So with that in mind I think to myself "I'm going to slam the **** out of this *****". I tell the wife to stand back and observe. I give myself a good running start and completely get owned by the rim. My guess is that I was at least a foot short. I turned to my wife and told her we were going home. Now at 43 I once in awhile shoot hoops at Lifetime but I know better then to try and dunk.

My friend George tried to sell those but the guy who helped demonstrate how well they worked was injured in a locker room accident. Without Jimmy, no one wanted to buy those.

Our high school coach used to make us do that drill where you try to touch the rim and none of us girls were taller than 5'9". I always thought it was stupid but I was ecstatic one day when one of my fingertips brushed the rim.
