Glory days: Could you dunk? How old is too old to try again?

I'm 6'4 and a half and in high school I had the highest vertical jump in my school (30 inch standing) but I never dunked. I am a two-footed jumper though.

I never played basketball (I should have) so I never practiced.

Today my vertical is probably only 26 to 28 but I can now dunk-- even though I still never practice.

I can dunk a woman's ball. I'm 23 and around 6 feet tall.

Two-footed is better for dunking. It's not as pretty in dunk contests, though.

I'm 6'9 and it has always felt awkward to not jump off of two feet for a two handed dunk. One footed for one handers though, with a hand behind the head. Or Brent Barry style...

I biffed a couple dunks during intramurals. I could dunk (with no defense) from about 19 to 29. I think I could get back there if I gave up the office job and stopped drinking beer.

I thought you were like 19... the more you know.

I could dunk in high school. I am 5'10 and solved the problem of smaller hands with stickum spray. That helped with the one handed dunk but could also jump off both feet and two hand dunk.

At 6'4", 195 lbs. and 66 years old, I am delighted to say that I intend to painlessly walk Homewood Golf Course most every day during the upcoming season. You young bucks can dunk all you want, with or without a trampoline. I will cheer you on if I see you slamming them down at the park.

Re: Part 1 question, "could you dunk?"

Answer: No.

I've been 6-2 since my junior year in HS. Dunking wouldn't be a breeze for some of us at that height, but my vertical leap, in my prime, was probably above average, and my arm-length is probably 6-4.

Countering that, though: my stubby-hand-size doesn't match my height/length, and I never was able to palm a basketball. Any chance of dunking would've required a much better vert, so I could use two hands.

If basketball were played with a regulation-sized playground ball — that would've been a different story.

I am 6'3. I could rattle them down back in college. I still consider myself in good shape. Had ACL and meniscus surgery over a year ago. Haven't picked up a basketball since. Some days running hurts, let alone jumping.
