I should have known better, when I boarded my final connection into KC...getting on a very old commercial jet at gate 71 at Denver International. Getting to my seat, 8B, I watch about 5 or 6 Cyclone fans board after me.
And one Jayhawk.
Last night before Friday's session, the Jayhawk "pep-rally" (term used loosly) took place in the awesome P&L district long before the Cyclone rockus pep-rally. Apparently KU fans missed the memo - as it was about 70-80% true American Cyclone up on that place. Why?
Hoiball fever.
Down the entire game to a tough Longhorn team Thursday night, the Cyclone faithful did everything possible to wil ISU back into the game. Morris and Hogue drop bombs on Texas that have a similar effect as the Atomic bombs unleashed on Japan decades ago. 5.something seconds left and Morris unleashed the final kill shot. His mom, wearing Monte's #11 jersey that someday will hang from Hilton's raftersss, gets beer spilled on her feet/purse and loses and earring. She couldn't care less.
It's a huge sigh of relief inside the Sprint Center and a Cyclone party on the outside. Fred and Jamie are inceasing their life insurance policies again, Cyclone fans scheduling those cardio checkups.
I'm driking a cold Blue Moon in the heart of P&L yesterday afternoon, hanging out with family and then thousands of other friends. It's glorious. It is also Friday the 13th. Nutcups? Better have them.
We fast forward to seconds left last night. The KU fans that were loudly rooting against ISU early in the game have all left to their shanties or have finally shut up. OU has one final opportunity, missed shot but there is Spangler with a gimme. Ball slips from his hands just like it slipped from another OU would-be-shooter's hands a few posessions previously. Friday the 13th and ISU gets the luck?
Mmmmmmmmkay.
Jameel, he's good. Block on one end and teleports down the floor to get a huge putback dunk.
Just like all the ISU fans this weekend. Cheer loud, party hard. Never stop becasue we're here for another day, *******! Bring on KU - but this town belongs to the Cyclones!
I'm off to pregame, rested way late to have the energy to the finish. See you in the Sprint Center, section 114 represent!
