Regular season title is a big deal. I wish people wouldn't downplay it. I'll take conference tourney titles too, no doubt, but no need to downplay the regular season.

I wonder what is more predictive of winning an NCAA tournament title? Only winning a regular season conference title and getting an at large berth, or winning a conference championship and getting an automatic tourney bid? Khaal?

My gut says there's a lot of overlap, but teams that win conference tournaments could have an edge in that. But I have no idea.

I love conference tournament titles, but I want even more to have that regular season title so those Jayhawk fans shut the **** up about their streak.

I got pretty sick of hearing Kansas having 10 consecutive regular season titles throughout the season. Now 11....... ugh. If that streak was broken then maybe I would be on your side.

Um, no it doesn't. There's a reason why people make such a big deal out of KU winning 11 straight.
People make a big deal out of the regular season title? They make a big deal out of KU winning 11 straight. Same thing if a school would win 11 straight tournament titles.

Both are completely meaningless...well, other than the tournament earning you an auto-bid.

So I don't really care if we keep finishing 2nd in the regular season if we keep winning the conference tourney.

The only thing Jayhawk fans are holding onto now is their conference outright titles. All the sudden they don't care about conference tournament championships? They are back peddling. They know they are losing ground rapidly. KC is ours and next year we will win the out right title. What will you not care about next year Jayhawks? Isu is the new trend. Out with the old in with the new. And i for one love they hate us and are their new Missouri. We have salitified the rivalry imo. Ku's hatred towards us and our fans says so.

Must be only people in Iowa and Kansas that make a big deal about this. I live in Chicago, everything I have seen tonight says we are Big 12 Champions. Never heard one word, outside of these boards that Kansas has won anything.

Don't get me wrong, I know they are regular season champs, and congrats to them. I just don't think anyone outside of the Big 12 realizes this.

Regualr season, plus conference tournament, each team finished 15-6. ISU finished 2-1 against Kansas

While the Regular Season title might be better in terms that you had a better overall regular conference season, a Tournament title gets more attention for a couple reasons:
1) It's part of March Madness and the winner gets an auto bid to the big dance.
2) It happens after the regular season, so it's more fresh in everybody's minds.

That being said, I can't wait to win both next year!

you know, ESPN just put an article out on this on Thursday or Friday. i'm too lazy to find a link, but i doubt you'll have any trouble.

I would have taken the regular season one over the course of a double round-robin just to break that "won or tied" streak that Kansas has going on.

Though, to be fair, we had the same record against the conference in aggregate, together, this year, but we 2/3'd them with a home, away, and neutral contest.

Regular season is a big deal, but in a league like this, if you finish 2nd, but beat the 1st place team 2/3 times, is there really an argument?

I mean ****, TTech beat 3 teams from this league. That says they'd be a 10 seed if they were in the Big 10.

In no real sport is the championship automatically awarded to the team with the best regular season record. There is always a playoff to determine the true champion.
