Something was off on this team the entire year, it kind of had a Wayne Morgan years vibe to it in that it was very hard to watch, heck I didnt watch most of the games because I got so tired of watching a lack of effort and fundamentals. Definitely dont want to put a lot on BDJ but Im not sure we take on someone that has a lot of baggage like that again, Hoiberg shot for the stars and it didnt work, who's to say that was the problem this season but he happened to be the new player on the roster. Could it be stacking the roster with too much talent and not enough minutes to go around lead to the bad attitudes, lack of effort? Just a disappointing year in general, they never truly jelled. Loved winning the B12 tourney though :)

Coaching, coaching, and coaching. Part of coaching is motivation. Our staff failed miserably at that today.

Terrible not calling the TO on the shot clock violation possession.

Terrible pinning Georges on the baseline against a guy who owned him all day and making the double team even easier.

Terrible sitting Matt Thomas for the last 11 minutes outside desperation time.

People at work don't seem to realize that I don't want to talk about the game right now. They also seem to think I care about their brackets. I hate everything right now.
Those type of people are the worst. Oh man Kentucky lost and it screwed my bracket! No **** sherlock!

Here nor there
Just an incredibly painful loss. A very good year after losing two AAs, and a bunch of fun until the end. I thought maybe we could pull it off up 2 with under a minute.

UAB exploited our weaknesses. They crashed the boards better than anyone we have played. I hope next year we can do that.

I think I am in shock.

I could see this coming from a mile away---so much favorable ISU press nationally. We were the "golden" boys with a golden coach. Also, I read way too many posts on CF about who we would play in the 2nd and even 3rd rounds and how we could beat Duke.

Well, we got knocked down from our perch big time. Next time a little more humility from everyone--fans included--might serve us well.

One final thought--I love and appreciate Coach Fred as much as anyone, but his teams (and especially this one) does seem to play down to their competition. Why is that? I am not basketball savant, but I have to believe that a more tenacious defensive effort would really help on those days--such as today--when the ball is not falling thru the hoop for us.

71 rebounds.... SEVENTY ONE

That stat is just flat out disgusting to an Iowa State fan today.

We had a great team/season (minus when it mattered, TODAY.) UAB wanted it more and certainly deserved it.

We could look at conspiracies such as the curse of being ranked #9, being picked by Obama to advance, or drastic hair changes equaling losses. But the reality is we are a very good team that is totally beatable if we aren't mentally prepared and hustling. We had glaring issues with rebounds, defending the 3pt line, and completely playing out of character for long stretches all season.

Sucks as a fan, but this season was nothing short of a roller coaster. Couldn't be completely unexpected given our track record this year. We are certainly capable of an @Texas Tech performance anytime. And that's what we gave today.

Trying really hard to find a positive in this loss, the only thing i can think of is Niang, Morris, McKay, Long, Nader (and bench guys) will all be back next year and will know this feeling and will hopefully learn from it. I still think next year is the big year.

Hoiball needs major modifications for next year. I would rather watch a 40-39 game with us taking care of the basketball to get good shots and rebounding like LE used to preach, then the one and one and heave threes when you are not making them. Our defense was horrible all year.

This team finished second in the Big 12 regular season, and won the Big 12 tourney.

Too bad you didn't watch most games. Your assessments do sound like assessments made by someone who didn't watch most games.

Fittingly enough, this team plays like a tornado. It will demolish one house and leave the next one untouched.

I think this was one of Fred's worst games. Thomas is one of the only guys hitting shots and he doesn't play like the last ten minutes? BDJ is one of the best rebounders on the team and he doesn't play when they are getting killed on the boards?

Very grateful for a bunch of fantastic moments this season.

Expect the returning guys to be extremely serious about going to the next level . . . Niang, Long, McKay, Morris, etc.

I hope Fred and this team can get it figured out why we play to the name on the front of the jersey. We should have the mentality of destroying our opponent. We act like a cat playing with a mouse for dinner and suddenly the mouse gets away and all that is left is, WE ARE STILL HUGRY. I want to thank the team, coaching staff and everybody involved for the year of excitement. I for one will be back and know you all will too. You know why? Because we are clones to the bone and this latest kick to the groin isn't even affecting me anymore.
