What's your confidence level of beating UNI in the first game?

IDK guys. NDSU probably wouldn't beat anyone other than us and Kansas in the Big 12 on any given day. We were just awful last year. Really hoping for some incredible improvement on the defensive side of the ball. O-line needs to grow a pair and we will be fine.

They beat K-State the year before they beat Iowa State. K-State had an 8-5 record that year. And one of those 5 losses was to NDSU..........so K-State had a 8-4 record against FBS teams............and was winless against FCS teams at 0-1.

Yes I know they beat K-State but they also had a pretty crazy comeback to do it. K-State was dominating them in that game, and the bottom fell out. I wouldn't be on that happening again.

But it did. Give them credit for it. They are FCS Champs 4 years in a row. We were up 14-0. Lost a few starters and the bottom fell out. Give them credit. They were far better than the Iowa team that we beat from the Big Ten that went to a Bowl game.

With what both teams are returning, easily 80% for me.

I don't know man. I want to agree with you, but even when we had a better team (2011 comes to mind) they still played us tight. Not so sure we have a much better team this year, if even at all.

NDSU laid it to us last year, and the UNI score the year before that was closer than the game seemed.

Last few wins against FCS opponents (other than 2011) were fairly handily. UNI in 2010 we blanked 27-0, and that 2012 game against Western Illinois was 37-3 (they were absolutely horrible).

I would like to think we are clearly more talented than UNI, but other than David Johnson, the area they usually dominate us is in the trenches.

UNI lost 3 starters on a decent Oline, jucos coming in this fall? Not sure I would count on them being ready right away. Lbs won't skip a beat? Umm ok, you lost your top 2 Lbs and one who was a 3 year starter and stud in Jake. I'm sure the younger brother will be fine but just sayin it will take some time. Kollmorgen not starting? Are you high? Did UNI bring in Brett Favre? Not that he's Favre but he was good last year and u think any of those transfers knock him out? No way.

I've learned over 14 years that you trust Mark Farley when it comes to defense.

As far as Kollmorgen, he's not going to be the guy. He should be, but he won't. They went with a guy that literally couldn't thrown last year and continued to play him after he tore ligaments in his ankle that took away his ability to run. Kollmorgen got a raw deal. Its really not fair to the kid, but they've moved on from him. The two coming in wouldn't be in Cedar Falls if they weren't told it was an open competition. Plus, there are still some rumors that he's going to go the grad transfer route this spring...

75%. Assuming we don't lose a starter to injury for the season on the opening series, we should be good.

I believe I was told last year that NDSU was going to be worse because of who they lost and that they had a new coach. Then they completely embarrassed us on our own field.

So confidence? Zero. Can we? Of course.

Out of curiosity, what's the logic for the people who think we'll beat Iowa but lose to UNI.
Rhoads' incapability in recent years to have the team ready to play for the first game of the season. It takes a learning experience for them to get it together (aka a loss to an FCS team).

Although in my opinion I don't think we beat either Iowa or UNI.

We have 20 more scholarship players, spend much more money on the program, have vastly better facilities, have recruited much higher ranked players and are playing at home. So I guess if we don't win, it will all come down to coaching.

I am fairly confident we will win the game this yesr. I was also confident we would win the opener the past two years.

Just once I'd like to see us come out and blow the doors off someone. I think that hasn't happened because we haven't been able to control the LOS and haven't had enough speed at skill positions.

UNI has controlled the LOS too well the past 3 times we have played them and I wouldn't be surprised if they do again this year. Hopefully our skill guys can take care of the football and make some plays to win the game.

I was maybe 40% confident the last two years because those teams were both good and we were still getting **** figured out but both years everyone seemed super confident on here. This year everyone gives us no chance and I am 90-95% confident. In fact, I think we p!ss pound them. One, we will be a better and more experienced team.
Two, this will be the first time we aren't rolling out a brand new new offense for the first game for the first time in a few years. Three, UNI will be a much less talented team next year. They are losing a legit NFL running back and starting QB (yeah yeah how did that go for ND State, well UNI isn't ND state they don't have the depth). Add it all up plus a little good old fashion revenge and we win big. That will then be followed by a new over inflated perception of how good this team is because they out performed your distorted expectations once again.

50%. If ISU loses to UNI, Rhoads should be fired immediately after the game.
...or if this game is even close (muchless overtime)
I guess the thing that really boggles my mind (to no end) is when we have this much time to prepare for a season opener, and the game is still in doubt in the 4th qtr. With 5 years under CPR's belt, and a 29-46 W-L record... There should be no excuse for blowing a non-conf. game at home.

Lack of planning; lack of anticipation, lack of organization, lack of strong commitment, lack of gung ho players.
