Fred should (almost) have his "pick of the litter" here. I'm sure he has received multiple phone calls from coaches we have never even heard of telling him that they're interested in the job.

Can we get the guy that recruited for Texas under Barnes? Imagine what him and Hoiberg could do with that level of talent

I'm 99% sure Fred already knows who he's bringing in

I think TJ as eventual HC hype is overblown, but he would be a good get, IMO and an upgrade. The main concern is he is likely gone ASAP.

I am all for using this as an opportunity to buy a recruit...like St. John getting Abdelmassih. TJ bringing Dime would be s decent backup plan.

Malik Dime is not the type of recruit you hire an assistant coach just to get him to your school. My biggest thing with TJ is that everyone knows he wants a HC job. That's fine and I understand it. But if he is going to be one of your big recruiters, then I can envision the same scenario that happened with Matt A happening with TJ. A year or two from now when TJ is your lead recruiter on a 5 star kid and the head coaching job at a place like Drake opens up and TJ leaves, that sets you behind with that kid because you're losing a big relationship there.

Point being, if TJ comes back, I doubt it would be for more than a year or two.

I'm guessing if TJ comes back he will know that Fred is wanting to go to the NBA soon and will come back knowing that he'd be the next head coach... just my opinion tho.

I'm going to be honest, I would have mixed feelings about bringing TJ back. Never met him, but have heard from most accounts that he is a good guy. He also helped build the program when Fred first got here.

On the other side, he left us for what was, at best, a lateral move at Washington. Feel like I haven't heard news of him bringing in any top-caliber talent there (no, Dime doesn't count). Just feel like we could make a bigger "splash" hire. Also, what GeorgesFan posted about not wanting him back concerns me/piques my interest.

Ok im just gonna say this and be done with this thread but anyone that doesnt welcome back TJ to the staff is off their rocker. He brought in the likes of Diante, Brackens and several others.....under freaking McDermott. He had what 2 years with Fred? I would place him in my top 2 for possible replacements with a nice pay raise. I hope this is a possibility for whatever reason him or Fred may have for it. If its not even a possibility then I have no doubt Fred can find a great replacement.

Hearing that Georges isn't a fan of TJ scares me a little. But I know a few people within the program that have told me TJ's awesome. So I'm not sure what gives.

Someone must uncover the rift between TJ and Georges' mom.

A very, very reliable source has told me that Al Seibert is the frontrunner for the job.

Has he fully recovered mentally from having his life flash before his eyes as a Franimaniac super-kicked clipboard flew past his face?

Not to disagree with you, but I'm sure that these recruiters aren't any more adept at their craft than our staff. What advantages do they have? In-state talent pool and UT is the flagship school in the state! Even while Barnes was underachieving, they still could say 16 of 17 years that they were an NCAA tourney team.
DJ Augustin: Missouri City, Texas (originally from Louisiana)
LaMarcus Aldridge : Dallas, Texas
TJ Ford: Houston, Texas
Myles Turner: Euless, Texas
Isaiah Taylor: Houston, Texas
Dexter Pitmann: Rosenberg, Texas
Avery Bradley: Lived in Arlington, Texas from 2001-2004 where he became a huge UT fan (Vince Young years 2003-2005: National Champs in 2005 --- Football success effect)
Kendal Yancy: Richardson, Texas

I'm curious, too, but if Fred brings him back (big "if"), then his judgement trumps Georges' mom's opinion. But most likely, if her concerns are legit, then Fred probably knows the situation and wouldn't bring him back.
