He left simply to get experience for HC positions. He loves ISU, is on great terms with JP, CFH, etc and is an excellent rehire. No need to try dirtying anybody's names through this transition.

Yeah, it's not like Fred would rehire someone he didn't want to. Fred took on a guy he knows well and likes. He knows TJ will do a great job.

How does this affect recruiting for Iowa State?

Is TJ Otz a good defense coach? If he isn't I will be disappointed in hire.

Mann is our defensive coach. IIRC he was still in charge of the defense even when Doc was here

At least TJ played the game. I think we came out ahead on this one.

I thought he was the one that committed the recruiting violations a few years ago but I'm not sure.

No he wasn't.

He actually was responsible for a few of the minor phone call violations and served a brief penalty for them (a week of non-contact, IIRC); however, this didn't have to do with his departure. Both Hoiberg and Abdelmassih also had violations, and there were less than 10 total violations between the three of them.

For those , and there appears to be a lot of you, who haven't been around ISU Bbal very long..TJ is one of the better recruiters we've had in a long while. Guy can recruit and this is dearly needed to re establish this program after next season. and...he will certainly add a little to the game planning and game day coaching as well.

This guy is the only reason that we won any games under McD. He brought in some great talent under Greg, so imagine what he can do with Fred the second time around with new recruiting contacts.

This is not some harsh criticism of Hoiberg but he has had a lot of misses too. Sledge, Okoro, SDW, etc. I don't know that hs recruiting has been incredibly different under the two. They both got two high end talents, in Johnson/Brackins and Niang/Morris. The difference is that Hoiberg will go get transfers and make them work and he's much better on gameday. Hoiberg would have done wonders with some of Macs rosters. I'm not talking title games but he would have made the tourney at least a couple times.
Morris was a Cornell Mann recruit

Isn't this a step down from where he was at ISU before? Henry is the associate head coach, which is what Otz was before. That's why I didn't think anyone was serios about Otz coming back.

Maybe my thinking is off.

Charlie Henry was only promoted to assistant coach before this season. Sounds like there won't be any "associate" tag for Otz this time though.

I know it doesn't really matter, so I'm not debating you or saying your wrong. I thought when Otz left, Doc took the associate job, and then when he left, Henry was promoted to that spot. I'm probably wrong though.

We don't have an associate HC, Charlie gets paid the least of all the assistants too.

I don't know if this has been addressed on here yet or not, but in this quote from Hoiberg today.......

“We obviously have some things were we feel like we are in a pretty good spot with some kids who will be immediately eligible to play next year — some junior college kids — and we will continue to pursue transfers that become available as well,â€￾ Hoiberg said. “We will see what happens.â€￾

..... who are the JUCO's that we're in a good spot with that are eligible to play immediately next year? Anyone know?
