Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

We're not allowed to question two guys who are only adding to the baseless speculation? Give it two weeks when Thibs is gone atleast and take it from there.

Safe to say their breaking in Fred's new heart pumper.

Sure you are. Just like others are allowed to speculate about Fred and his future.

And I think 99% of Cyclone fans will take Chris and Blum' "baseless speculation" over someone's "I know a guy who knows Fred's sister" type of posts on an anonymous message board. Oh and national NBA writers who *gasp* have ACTUAL connections to these people are writing similar things.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

It's freaking speculation, that's all. People are losing their minds over something that less than 15 people nationally have decided to write/talk about and even more so now that CW, BB and JP are only continuing throw logs on the fire.

It's their jobs to do exactly this though so it is what it is. Not so much JP's but Def the other two.

Who is losing their minds?

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

JP's comments - Would you rather he said "No Comment.."? If he said that, I guarantee there would be a lot more freaking out.
Media preparing fanbase for a let down??? Now I've heard it all...
Matt A leaving - To go back home?
Weirdness in recruiting - You mean one and done guys don't want to sit on the bench and be a role player getting maybe 10 mins? These guys are looking to start, not sit. If this were next year and McKay and Niang leaving, they both would have committed weeks ago.
TJ pulling out of head coaching searches - Maybe being an Asst at ISU pays more than being the head coach of University of Wisconsin-platteville, green bay, whatever it was.. Maybe being an Asst at a top 5 ISU team would land him a better head coaching gig in a couple years than being mediocre at some no name school.
Romar's comments - You got me there... Fred's gone.
UW Green Bay has been a 2 year NCAA Tourney at large bubble team, Platteville is division 3 school. uWGB is paying Linc Derner $230k which I believe is a tad more than Otz is making at ISU. Fwiw

You missed the sarcasm in that post about knowing his sister. I don't personally know her. Just think it's hilarious how far some of you are taking things prior to them even happening.

I would hope this too, but CW actually "speculates" that Fred will be back, and from the reaction of the majority on here you would think he was as good as gone.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Jamie Pollard isn't "speculating" anything about it. He acknowledged the same thing today that he did a year ago, and two years ago...yes it is possible, but there has been nothing written in the last week that has told us anything we haven't been told 1,000 times before, and 1 of the 2 guys that wrote an article even said (in the same article) that he believes Fred will be back...but that just does not seem to be registering as a possibility whatsoever to some of you.

Who said Jame speculated he would leave? The whole article was about a very real decision Fred is going to make and that isn't speculation. Some people are in denial. I nor did Blum or anyone I am aware of in the media say Fred is leaving.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Speculating what he will do is one tHing and yes speculation but it isn't speculation that he will almost certainly have a decision to make.

Completely agree with you on that. We must disagree on what we think their speculating. Sure seems like some of both.

A very minor number of people are in denial...almost everyone realizes the Bulls will likely go after Fred, and that Fred will have a decision to make. There is nothing in this article that hasn't been known for the last year, but yet the majority of the board is in full-blown meltdown mode.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

I just really want Fred to think about me, and what makes ME happy. Is that too much to ask?

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Holy crap folks, we need to take a step back from the ledge. What spurred this whole conversation today? Comments from Jamie Pollard that weren't "100% I know Fred is here next year". Of course he doesn't know that, and even if he did, would he tell you that? I'm not saying Jamie would purposely deceive fans for a marketing stunt, but any publicity is going to be good publicity....even if that means he has to state the truth about Hoiberg, which is that he'll go to the NBA someday, he doesn't know when.

Amen, between the two articles and Jamie's comments, there has been literally nothing new broke to us that we haven't heard 1,000 times, and the only speculation done in any of it was CW speculating that Fred would be here next year.

I'm so jealous of people who have the ability to make a point without getting ****** off. Or in my case, try and make a point.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

When you combine:

JP's comments (which seemed a little negative).....

Theyre literally the same comments that he's made when asked the same question every year, basically 'we all know he has a desire to coach in the NBA eventually and he'll have to decide what that is, and we'll do what we can to keep him as happy as possible until that point'. But media types keep asking and acting as he's 'making statements'.

A concerted media effort to prepare the fan base for a let down....
The media doesnt care about letting the fanbase down easy. They do however love clicks, especially during quiet times of the year.

Matt A leaving.....
Assistants move around all the time, and he got to move closer to home.

Weirdness in recruiting, where guys like Bielfeldt and King, who would normally be committing quickly, are waiting...
Maybe because in the past we've had more to offer in terms of 'we need you for this essential slot'. We're not trying to fill a major hole this year.

TJ pulling out of head coaching searches
For an assistant job that pays more than those head coaching jobs, with half the headaches (and a lot more upside.. if the team finishes in the top 10 like its preseason ranking he'll have much more attractive offers next year)

Romar's comments
Comments that look more like those coming from a coach on the hot seat than comments about our situation.

Re: BLUM: The Mayor's dilemma

Some of the responses to this piece are just plain ridiculous. I especially don't get the crowd hating on BB for writing this article "just to get clicks" on CF. Although a lot of Blum's pieces are fun to read, a columnist doesn't write them to make everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside but rather give a unique perspective on a particular story. In this case, I thought he did lay out a unique perspective about the timing of Hoiberg's departure IF he does happen to leave ISU. Yes, he didn't present any new "facts", but the truth is nobody that has been writing about this situation has presented any new facts either. Enjoyed the piece, BB, even if it was a bit hard to swallow as a fanatic.

I support the CW article from the other day, however the article today from BB is kind of fanning the same exact fire that we've been circling around for a couple years now. I'm not going to go as far to say BB wrote this article as "click bait" but to believe that CF doesn't need traffic for ad revenue time to time would be an ignorant comment. I love CW and BB, this isn't to tear them down or to tear down their abilities as a journalist and the passion for Iowa State Athletics, these guys are great and great for the program! But you can't look past the need for continuously compelling articles that continue to bring the fans into the site and the forums and talking about Iowa State. Sometimes you just need to read between the lines.
