Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

Of course they would. If most reporters had information like this from players or their own inside sources, surely they would be saying it. They aren't known for sitting back and letting someone else get the same information and scoop them.

Why didn't they leak the info about TJ when they knew before ISU announced it then?

If it helps Chris Williams just tweeted that the team has not been told anything. Sounds like this report is at least partially false.

This. You got served, dandy.

100 % this is not true. Most of team isn’t even in Ames. On break.
Chris Williams added,
ZonaCLONE @skrisu70@khaal53 @ChrisMWilliams huh? Rumors flying Fred has told team leaving. Anything solid??

Yes I do think they would tweet something. Mainly because I am sure it would hurt them and cause them to be a little emotional.

So, all you guys who follow players on Twitter, what have you noticed? Are they talking about the Hoiberg situation? Knowingly?

No I don't. Why do you think CW and Hines had full stories of TJ getting hired 2 minutes after it got announced. They knew well ahead of time and didn't leak anything

Exactly right. Their livelihood depends on having access and they don't dare betray anyone's trust.

Comparing breaking a national story to breaking a press release type story? Come on. If Hines or CW knew, they'd be dumb not to break the story, it would be good for their careers.

And also "telling the players" doesn't mean they held a gathering around the campfire and everyone had to be there in person or it wasn't going down.

Just like they're saying there's a good chance Fred is leaving now

If they aren't supposed to break news they're not going to do it unless they never want to have access from the program again. It would hurt their career more than help unless they are planning on leaving the area

Re: REPORT: Alvin Gentry, not Fred Hoiberg, favorite to replace Tom Thibodeau

making it as smooth as possible would be announcing it as soon as you know. We are already missing out on transfers. That is not helping next year.

Now if there's a chance he changes his mind then you let him wait.

The dominos have to fall first. Thibs is still under contract as of right now. Hoiberg is still at ISU right now. Hoiberg can't come out and say he intends on taking the Bulls job if/when it is offered to him if Thibs is still under contact there.

My hope is that everything I have been told ends up changing between now and whenever the either the Bulls or Hoiberg announce their head coaching intentions.

I hope right now Hoiberg is rethinking his plans (if that is in-fact his plans) and ends up changing his mind to stay with ISU. The NBA will always be available to him.

I also think that Chris values his fanbase. He wouldn't lie and say that he "didn't know one way or another" like he's been saying. He'd just stop talking about it... look at the Diallo situation. Boards were shut down, and Chris was saying that he didn't think he'd come here long before it happened. My guess is he had an inside source there.

The insiders (possibly CW/Hines, I don't recall) stated that the MA replacement "is very familiar with the team" and "someone who we'd be happy with." You're correct they didn't disclose TJ, however they also gave assurances to their fanbase. This time, both have gone on record that they don't know and left it up to hunches/betting/guessing.

Since CW/Hines are pro-ISU, I also don't think they'd purposely damage their relationships with ISU. Reporters from DM or Chicago media wouldn't care.

I liked your post... this is the first and last time I'll ever like a post that has the letters "UAB" in it :)

Than why the hell is he running around telling his team? Also... Why would he tell his team if he wasn't 100% out the door coaching the Bulls?

Question for twocoach. What would you think of a Danny Manning hire for Iowa State?
Manning is a fantastic big man coach and did a good job at Tulsa in his limited time there. If I remember right, they had some pretty bad luck with injuries and were on the wrong end of some really close games last year. I think they were a better team than their record indicated from what little I heard about them. He'd be a good hire, I think, although it would hurt my soul to see Kansas go against him several times a year.

he could quit though he wouldn't have to announce where he was going. It's not like he can't afford a week off

Tweeted four hours ago. I saw this long before my posts on here.

Others PMing me said I could be wrong on the players knowing the they believe the staff and JP know.

Of course this "plan" of Hoiberg's can only happen if the Bulls offer him the job and he does accept it before he changes his mind.
